I have a Hp Pavillion 8766C P3 900MHz and recently i swiched my processor to a P3 1000MHz with 256kb cache. I have been having troubles with it, with the new processor I cant install windows or start-up from an existing hd with windows xp, but it works with my old processor. Somone sugested to update the BIOS so i researched and i found http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=&sw_lang=8&product=59903&os=209 my question is in link they say for Windows ME, but im running XP, so does it matter when u update the BIOS to be specific to Windows XP? (cause on the hp site for Windows XP, theres no BIOS udate listed)

I have never Udated BIOS b4 so i cringed when i heard all the risks haha, hopefully it works out...Thanks alot for your time.

I have another problem...when i downloaded the BIOS update, its a MS-DOS batch file. I have windows XP, and when i open the file, it works, it shows the menu, and it says "Enter one of 2 options: 1. Display list of models intended for this BIOS update, 2. Proceed with the BIOS update on this machine" (my system is listed). So i type 2 and press enter, nothing happens. I reboot to check the BIOS and its still the old version. Is windows interfering with the command prompt or somthin, i disabled my antivirus so i dunno wahts wrong..
