I have a 2.93 with 2 gigs. of ram and my system likes to run real slow at times. Programs that I use: Ad-aware, tune up utilities, ccleaner and norton. I defreag all the time and I have reciently formatted my hard drive. I know for a fact that I have no spyware or viruses so why must I have to restart to get my speed back?

Norton is a big system hog.

Also make sure your HDD and DVDWriters are in DMA [bold]NOT[/bold] PIO mode.

Make sure your system is not clogged up with dust.

Yes it does, especially if your heatsink and cpu is clogged up with dust, it would slow your system down quite a alot.

You should try to keep your system as dust free as possible otherwise your PC could overheat.
