socket is what the cpu sits in. socket "a" is discontinued, socket 939 is current main amd motherboards in use & still in production.

well first of all is you pc new or old because if its not within the last 2 months then it will not be capable of supporting that cpu you pposted sinc eit uses the am2 socket you most certainly will need a socket 939 which can be found herehttp://www.microdirect.co.uk/productlister.aspx?GroupID=1083

and you second question which heatsink/fan fits which cpu
for that i recomend you buy a retail pack which will contain a heatsink and fan and this is well recomeneded for someone who does not know what a socket is, if you are intending to buy a socket39 cpu which isnt bundled with a fan/heatsink then you should buy one of these:
    http://www.microdirect.co.uk/productlister.aspx?GroupID=1102

im sorry if my info is not one hudred percent correct because you have posted the required info needed by me

to get the full info i suggest you acquire a freeware program called CpuZ and then post me scrnshot of your results. then i shall fully be able to help you buy a compatable cpu and a comaptable fan/heatsink

Wtf, you guys are rediculous, why didn't you let him know the prices on all of amd's procs are dropping dramatically next week?

Hey Luke I hope you haven't bought anything yet, or can still return it because look here http://www.neowin.net/index.php?act=view&id=33585

All AMDs are dropping in price, and the dual core amds are dropping 50% !!!!
