I recently bought a 2004 pacifica and it has a dvd player in it. Most of my kids' movies are backups since they ruin them but it will not play backups. Is there software to backup a dvd and still let it play on this dvd player? I have tried DVD+R, DVD-R I have used DVDXCOPY and also tried DVD shrink. Any ideas?

Try using different media, a slower burn speed, and making sure your software bitsets the burned DVDs to DVD-ROM (this only applies to DVD+R, -Rs do not have this problem).

Media brand is usually the biggest determinant in compatibility, and you may have to try a few kinds. Generally, use Taiyo-Yuden or Verbatim, which gives you better compatibility, but try other brands if those don't work. A slower burn speed may help and may not require you to toss your current media. Usually, half the rated speed of the media or less is a good place to start.
