recently on my laptop, when i start up, the computer says there was an error when last shut down and then gives options on starting normally/sfae mode/last know confguration etc etc.

When i selected last know configuration, the computer starts and gets to the windows loading, (black screen), but just keeps going around ad then repeating this many times, i waited half an hour once and same prob

i toook it to the comp shop an they said it would cost £90 to get BIOS reset, because it takes 2 hours, and some of my friends say you could do it easily in like 30mins for free with a programe.

Could someone please help me get this ixed, because i have very important documents on there which need to be printed ASAP.

So if someone could briefly explain wat is the probleme ,and more importantly how to get it fixed. Thank you very much

that appears to be a windows problem not bios as they are 2 different things. could do a repair of windows or re-install windows on top of self to correct the problem. moved to correct forum

I'm assuming you have Windows XP home Edition,if so follow the instructions on this link step by step for a Windows repair. You will need the cd.http://www.windowsreinstall.com/winxphome/installxpcdrepair/indexfullpage.htm

And here's the link for XP Pro just incase(not much difference)http://www.windowsreinstall.com/winxppro/installxpcdrepair/indexfullpage.htm

What i would suggest you two do is to take out your hard drive but it in one of your friend machines as a slave and get the files that you need ! I think that thats the safest way two fix your problem and after you get you files back just install a new operation system .

Hopefully you can get into SafeMode and fix the problem there. If you want to pursue the option of hooking your HD to another PC, then simply purchase a HD enclosure since this is a laptop HD. Install the HD in the enclosure and connect it using the USB port to get to your files. The enclosure can be found for around $20.
