i was wondering what adaptor i would need to be able to watch a movie on my tv from my laptop. i have a sony vaio pcg-frv25, and is there a software installation needed to make it work, so basically i would be using the laptop/the dvd in the laptop as a dvd player, or is that even possible

You TV has to support S-Video. You will need a S-Video cable for this and can be purchased at you local electronic store or Wal Mart.

You said you be using the DVD-ROM in your laptop to project onto the screen. This cannot be done, as the TV port is copyright protected and the output will be scrambled to prevent analog recording.

Look for the S-Video plug-in. It will be located on the back of the TV will look exactly like the one on the back of your laptop. When you get a S-Video cable make sure both ends are the same! Many different types are made, just double check before you purchase.
