i plan on upgrading some of the internals of my pc i.e. M/B, graphics card, ram, cpu. But i wish to use my old cd & dvd drives and 2*hard drives. can i simply just plug my old ribbon cables into a sata board? or will i have to buy another two sata drives?

well it depends on your new motherbard, if it has 2 IDE channels, then you can use all 4 devices. but some newer motherboards have only 1 IDE channel, in which case, you'll only be able to use 2 of your 4 devices.

cool thanks guys. the mother board im looking at says its got
    4 x Serial-ATA 3Gb/s interface

2 Ultra ATA133 Connectors from GigaRAID controller

So i should be able to hooks these up through the 2 ultra ATA's right?
