VCD Out Of Sync

I have ripped DVD's to VCD and they play fine on my PC, when I try them on my DVD player they are ok except for every now & them the sync is out and the action seems to go into fast motion, after a couple of seconds the sound catches up. My DVD player is fine with downloaded VCD or 1's not done by me. I have used Smartripper etc, I have being using Win98, but have just upgraded to XP will this help? My CPU is only a 475 may this be the problem?
