I've seen plenty of topics asking about which mini-DVDs to use and which programs to use them with, but I can't seem to find one that discusses which actual DVD burner to use. I have a Dell computer and the DVD burner that came with it just can't seem to handle my Ritek G04's. If somebody could please tell me which DVD drive model they use to burn their backup .iso's, I'd really appreciate it. I can't tell you how many of these mini-DVD's I've wasted trying to get it to work... This drive I have in my Dell can read Sony's mini-DVDs just fine, but those don't work with the GameCube.. it's really frustrating! Anyway, thanks in advance for any help! Edit: I have a Phillips DVD+-RW DVD8701
I use a NEC 2510a model and it works just fine. You can get the newest model for around $30 if you look for a good deal. I've read that other posters have gotten it to work with this brand of burner as well. Slickdeals (search on Google) usually has good deals on the burner if you want to try it. Hope this helps!
I checked out that model and the cheapest I could find it is about $45 shipped... Do you think other NEC's should work as well? Do you think there's anything from microcenter.com I might be able to just buy in their store?
The BenQ DW 1655 can't be beat. Mine gives me the highest quality burns I've ever had and all for $38. I replaced a Plexor with it and haven't looked back http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827101006
Cool, it's got LightScribe too... Well I think I'm going to go with that one, as long as you say it works fine with your Ritek G04's and your GameCube reads them.
I don't have a GameCube but the 1655 will burn G04's as good as anything else out there. This thread may be of interest, http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/330512
