dvd decrypter read rate

hello! quick and short problem. my dvd decrypter's read rate is only 1.8x i'm told it should be much quicker. if anyone could help i'd really appreciate it. take care now.

 

goto your settings in decrypter, there is a tab,its one of them,i think maybe the I/O tab? you can set the read speed to MAX...hopefully that will help you

 

Its also a limit how fast the drive can read. If its a 2X drive then thats a good speed. Check your specs.

It should be more then that if its newer.

 

i cant find any read rate setting, how long does it normally take to decrypt an average dvd, its takig me 1 hour, iv got a 16x rw drive

 

Check and make sure your drive is in DMA mode and hasent fell to PIO mode.

To do this do the below...

Start/Control Panel/System Icon/Hardware Tab/Device Manger button.

Now once your at that window go down the list till you see IDE controlers. Now click the + sign beside the IDE controlers to branch it down so you can see all the controlers.

Go to each controler and right click on it and choose properties. Now click on the advanced tab and make sure all of them are in DMA transfer mode. If you find 1 that is in PIO mode then try to set it to DMA mode.

If it dosent let you set it into DMA mode then go to device manager/hardware again and go to your DVD/CD drives in the list and find your DVD burrner in the list and right click and choose to uninstall the drive. Then reboot your computer and windows should then reinstall the DVD drive again and put it in DMA mode.

 

i after checkin that out, they 're all set to "dma mode if available"

 

Your not looking at the right thing. You need to check and see what the current transfer mode is set to under the CURRENT TRANSFER MODE. (this should be the entry right below where it says (DMA MODE if availble)

If it says PIO mode then you need to switch it to DMA mode. Even if you have the IDE Channel set at (DMA mode if availble) it does not mean it will automaticly put it in DMA mode. It should set it automaticly but sometimes it will get stuck in PIO mode.

So check the section that I have pointed to below and make sure it is in DMA mode. If it says PIO mode then that is why you are reading slow. Look at the entry to the right of (CURRENT TRANSFER MODE)

If it says PIO it needs to be put into DMA mode. Try to manuly change it into DMA mode.

If that does not work then go to the DVD/CD drive in the Device Manager List and right click and uninstall the drive. Now restart your computer. Windows then will find your drive and automaticly install it which it should then install it into DMA mode. Sometimes you need to do this step if the drive is stuck in PIO mode.

Your system can switch your DVD drive into PIO mode if you are trying to read a DVD with alot of read errors on it. If it is changed to PIO mode then your DVD will read slow due to your CPU working harder. In PIO mode your CPU is doing the work. Where in DMA mode your RAM is doing the work. In some casses your drive can be stuck in PIO transfer mode if this is the case then you need to uninstall the DVD drive and have windows reinstall the drive after reboot.

 

you were right in the second primary IDE channel and in device 0 current transfer mode is PIO mode so i unistalled it but its still the same nothings changed.

 

It is still in PIO mode?

If so try to uninstall the IDE channel that is set to PIO mode and reboot your system.

 

aaahhhwwww this is doin my head in! i unistalled that channel an its still in PIO mode. i really apprecite your help though. is ther anything else i can try.

 

Is this a DVD burrner you instaled yourself?

If so how is it hooked up in your computer?

Is this the only drive on the IDE cable? Or do you have 2 DVD drives on it?

 

everything i have on my pc was on when i bought it. i only have the one drive.

 

Try uninstall the primary and secondry IDE channel and your DVD drive at the same time. Uninstall each of those before rebooting. Once you have them uninstalled reboot.

 

i have two primary channels and one secondry channel. would that make any difference

 

Uninstall all of them and your DVD/CD and reboot.

 

aw thank u thank u. dats after working. out of curiousty how long should it take if everything is working proper! i really owe ya one.

 

It can take me up to 15 to 20 minutes to rip a DVD depending on the size of it.

But it all depends on the read rate of your DVD/CD ROM, and your system specs.

 

I just happened across this thread. I started having the same problem after backing up FD3 a couple of days ago. You were right. The secondary was set to PIO. Thanks for the help.
