I purchased an HP 840i burner and have never been able to print a lightscribe label. No matter what I do I always get the eng error saying that no lightscribe disk detected. I've tried everything and have finally given up and decided to try another brand and would like to have an external drive so I can use on my laptop also. In the HP site it states that they do not support an internal drive in an enclosure and my question is, are there any inherent problems with the lightscribe functions with an internal burner in an external enclosure kit. I am looking at getting a benQ 1655 with a box kit or should I stick with a pure external drive? If so, I guess I am limited to a Lacie, because after my last go around with HP tech support, they'll never see another dime from me. If anyone is using lightscribe in a boxed burner, any input would be appreciated.
ive set up many lightsribes in box kits and had the same problems with some, but only ever seems to be the HP burners having the problam. i have no idea why. It would be safer to get a dedicated external drive, then youve got some comeback if it doesnt work
Just some quick tips if your interested. Not just on HP but many other drives may react or not work with lightscribe enabled drives mainly because they haven't gone through or passed the tested specifications set by HP for correct compatibility. I would suggest that if you were to get an external drive, stay with one that's premanufactured becasue they are designed to work with that particular interface and has probably passed certification. HP may have been slightly anal but from my own experience and after listening to what they said and digesting it, it turns out that yes its a fact that most third party external cases have issues in with compatibility. But I don't know, from what I take, they were just looking out for the best of me. From what I've seen, go BenQ and HP drives are pretty good for external drives.
