What exactly is the difference between these two processors? Obviously one has one core and the other two, but for applications and games and such, what in your opinion is the better?

Is it worth the extra money for the core duo? Thanks for the reply's!

Yep, two cores are almost always better than one. Watch out for heat and battery life in a laptop though.

In general dual cores are not that good for gaming.

However a good dual core will beat a mid range solo.

So go dual core if you dont plan to game so much. IMO anyway!

Dual cores are perfectly fine for gaming, but most games will only address one core, so you'll be paying more for the same performance since you're buying two of the processor when the game will only use one.
However, what you can do with a dual core ishave all your otherapplications running in the background not needing to be closed to load your game, becaue the other core can deal with your other programs. You can with enough memory, encode a video, rar a file, play music and be running a game all at the same time with a dual core. No chance with a single!

Not saying there bad just your better off with a single if your a heavy gamer really.

Why? Just to save money? If anything heavy gamers SHOULD get a dual core because if another application wants attention it won'ty disrupt the game's performance, and some games are now starting to take advantage of dual core processors.

Oh and I've only just noticed you've mispelt my name in your sig! LOL

I mean the only game that I really play a lot is World of Warcraft and I rarely do anything at all when im playing the game as in run things in the background like ripping files or burning a cd or dvd or something. I've noticed some laptops with the duo core are slowly getting cheaper so thats a plus I guess.

Of course, I rarely did that before, but now I can, I do it a lot! :D
Only get a Duo if you feel you're going to be getting something out of it. If you know you definitely won't use its extra performance then obviously go Solo.

You're welcome, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised what you can do with it.
