I would check your autoexec.nt file found in C:\Windows\System32 and see if there is a line that runs mugen.exe
It sounds like the command to run mugen.exe has been added to it so it executes then terminates, showing inactive on the task bar.
Autoexec.nt is the files used to create the DOS environment for XPs DOSVM

That was how you checked it. It still appears that for some reason something else is executing when you start a DOS session. Does it as well when you go to Start/Run and type cmd? The only other thing I can think of is to replace your autoexec.nt and config.nt with the ones in C:\WINDOWS\repair or from your XP cd. I would compare them first with the ones you have in your C:\WINDOWS\System32 directory.

ok its only just the mugen program which doesnt work but its also the games which are made from it, it did say it might have problems playing on xp but isnt there anyway of emulating the old dos to use this exe?
