When I am capturing analog video to convert to digital, is it better to do this as an AVI or an MPEG?

Will I get better quality DVD's with one or the other?

    Thanks
    John

AVI isn't a video format like MPEG, it is just a container. If you are going to do any editing AVI is the best choice because re-encoding has a negligible effect on the original quality while with MPEG each re-encode will have a perceivable degradation.
