Hello. First I want to say that I am indebted to this forum for helping me solve some minor difficulties with a variety of issues, just by reading the posted questions and answers. I couldn't locate a thread which speaks about my particular issue. I will first give you my system information then the issue. I have the Asus A8V-E SE 1.xx MOBO with a 2.0 gig AMD Athlon 64 processor; 200 MGHz Bus Clock; 1024MB DDR RAM (2-512 Modules); 200gig Hard Drive; Windows xp Home service pack 2; Plextor DVDR PX-760A DVD writer (an excellent machine!!); Nero Burning Rom; Nero Fast CD-burning; Nero Vision Express 3; Nero Back it up; Nero Start Smart; DVD Shrink; MPEG-VCR V3.14 (by Womble Multimedia). Step 1. I record TV programs (commercial and non-commercial PBS)using my DirecTv Plus receiver. Step 2. I access my recorded tv shows or movies, replay them and record them to DVD-RW media using my JVC DVD VIDEO RECORDER, DR-M100S. Step 3. I take the recorded DVD-RW disk to my computer and load the video files to a special folder. Step 4. If the program is a commercial program (as is the case right now), I open my MPEG-VCR editing program, add the files one at a time to it, remove the commercials and save them to another folder. (the current folder has 4 29 minute segments=116 minutes, 4 minutes shy of 2 hours. Step 5. I open Nero Vision Express 3, add the video files, configure them to begin playing with file 1. My current project consists of 3 29 minute segments equaling 87 minutes. I click to begin the burning process. PROBLEM: It will now take 1 HOUR 58 MINUTES to TRANSCODE AND WRITE these files??? this is MADENING! Why does it take this long? When I record a PBS Mystery show without commercials, I take the DVD-RW disk to my computer, load the files using DVD SHRINK, click REAUTHOR, move the file to the left, check the START AND END FRAMES and click BACKUP. DVD SHRINK uses my Nero program to burn and it takes only between 15 to 30 minutes, usually 20. PLEASE HELP ME SOLVE THIS MYSTERY! Manny thanks!
Hi. It's just NeroVision's way of doing things. It's slow. I use TMPGEnc Author myself. I take the RW disk from the video recorder and input the titles on it directly to TMPG. I edit out the commercials, make a menu, encode the project and burn or Shrink, depending on the size. I think you'll find this a faster approach. Version 1.6 has a fully functional free trial if you want to try it out. The newest version's (2.0) trial is limited as to what you can do. http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/download/tda16.html
Manny thanks for your timely replies. I am now downloading TMPGEnc 1.6 and will try it out. Why does Nero produce such slow software? Probably because they are trying to pack it with too manny functions; simple software is better than complex! thanks again.
You're welcome. Nero started out as a little program that burned DVDs. Period. Over the years, they purchased other disk utility programs from others to increase the marketability of their product. They do have a complete suite. When you start with someone else's program and keep modifying, all sorts of unexpected stuff occurs. Also WinXO is all over the place doing all sorts of unanticipated and off the wall stuff so that makes programming more difficult as well.
I want to thank you all for the help you gave me. I have just discovered the problem and the solution to my issue. When you burn in Nero Vision Express, theres a box titled BURN-AT-ONCE. this box was checked. I unchecked it and Nero now burns my DVD's in about 35 minutes; instead of 1 hour and 56 minutes. Rock on! thanks again. Pete.
