Hello everyone, I've tried to search and figure out this issue but I have no idea. I have been burning dvd's for awhile now without any problems. I used to use blank dvd's from bj's (berkeley and jensen) which is not a good brand but they always worked fine. they stopped making them so i switched to sony dvd+r which i've heard is a very good brand. however, now i am starting to get a power calibration error. I get the error using the Sony media, however I have a handful of my old media left and those still work fine. That being said I do not think my burner or laser is dying since it works for the old discs and not the Sony's. I've tried burning at the lowest speed as well. Any ideas? Update your Nero from here, both packages http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe Package 2 http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe I have looked for firmware updates for this burner and cant find it on the Sony site, my source says latest is BYS3 Heres something on this error
Dadgum Gwen, Not even a chance to put anything in, Very nice, very informative. congrats. Although I will review, but very nice. The time is coming to say that you are really good., Although, who were your teachers? Was it Scuba,BBMayo, (first ones to come to mind), or who else?
Thanks Gwendolyn, I will test this out. Could it also have something to do with the fact that the newer blank media dvd's are faster...up to 16x? I think my older discs were up to 8x? I'm just wondering why it seems to work with my cheaper media and not with the Sony's which I just bought. Could it be my burner can't handle 16x?
Sometimes older burners have trouble with the latest high speed discs, whereabouts are you situated so I can take another look at Sony site for firmware. @Nero63, Just kept on reading replies by creaky (the NeroNater)
@bbaker not to say that a disk drive can become "accostomed" to a certain type of disk, but your system can, if you've repeatedly used the same type of disk, and then change to another, there may have been an update the "basis" of disk rendering, which will result in the neccessity of updating you soft&firm ware. So following Gwen's directions, Definitely update your software, and make sure your firmware is up to date @gwendolyn Creaky was going to be my next guess.... really rightous people
nero63 - how do i update my firmware? i would say i've burned over 100 discs that have been the same brand. i am switching now because they don't make them anymore. i switched to sony because they are a good brand name but having trouble. here are the stats to my burner... Gwendolin and Nero, I updated my nero given the links by Gwen and tried it again, it seems to be working, at least i'm up to 10%, i was crashing as soon as I put the disc in before! so far so good, I'll let you know if and when it finishes. Thanks so much!!!
Your log shows your burner details along with firmware, I need to know where you live so I can check out the Sony site for that area.
Hi Gwendolin, I am from boston, ma. On a plus note, I just burned a dvd succesfully so I think updating the Nero packages worked. Although I think it would be a good idea to update my firmware as well. Thanks so much for your help.
OK I will check things out and get back to you. [bold] I am unable to find anything from Sony site, I will ask binkie7[/bold]
It seems Sony doesn't support this drive. For the BYS3 firmware you can use this one: http://www.cdr.cz/dvd_rekordery/sony/firmware/dwd22a/BYS3WIN.zip The discs are fully recognized by your drive so this may or may not help. This drive is actually an oem LiteOn SOHW-1633S. You could crossflash to that firmware but if you have a warranty this will void it. To rule put the other possibilities I would try different media like Verbatim or made in Japan Fuji (usually made by Taiyo Yuden).
seem www.techspot.com would have something for you, was just checking, can't be sure, but a very wide variety
seems binkie7 has got me on the link to the device update/firmware thanks binkie7 shows the same link
@binkie7, Wow Karen, you got in while I was sending you a PM. This is the 2nd log in 2 days with the same burner.
Actually with this drive I've seen more than 2 having problems with good media. So bbaker glad to hear the update of Nero Gwen recommended did the trick for you! Let us know if you have any further problems
@Nero63 The main one I use is: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php Usually has all of them - just not this one - only list the known firmware.
yeah, not wanting to mix areas, just curious where where you came from and who you know. will stop the small talk and get back to buiz.
