A good friend of mine recently retires his aging system. And since he knew I am building a pc gave me first picks at his old system parts. The only parts off it I took/could use were his old soundcard and a couple sticks of RAM. The problem is he didn't have the CD that came with the Soundcard and I am unsure if I need anything besides the driver. This is the page I got at creative when I entered my model #
    http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp?DriverLang=1033&searchString=SB0240&x=0&y=0

I dont need any fancy software just whats needed to use the soundcard to its full abilities. I believe all I need is download # 1, 17. 18,and 19 but being as this is my first sound card I just wanted to check. It is a Audigy 2 (not a ZS) with 1 digital out, 1 mike in, 3 line out, and a external firewire port. Model # SB0240

And as the ram I just need some info on it and dont know were to start. Two of the sticks are identical and I believe standard 184 pin DDR 400 ram and the other stick is a no name brand that most likely came with the PC and its most distinguising mark is a SEC in a couple noticable places. So I assume this could be the brand?

thanks for the help - PeaInAPod

Added: I also cant seem to find how many channels this soundcard has I believe it is 7.1 but am unsure.

This link should give you the specs for that card->http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=205&product=10653

If you download item 4 from the link you provided you should be in good shape.

As for the memory...I'm not sure yet.

    Hope this helps a little,Good Luck.B.W.

Thank you SO much boxwrench. I was completely lost. I had some idea as to what I needed to do but your info helped a LOT. so i take it according to your link my card is a Audigy 2 value? This is kinda off topic but I have been playing mostly FEAR and it reguires EAX 2.0 (not sure what that is) and this card supports EAX Advanced HD/EAX 4.0 Adv. HD I take it is a higher iteration of EAX? And still compatible? thanks for your help boxwrench

Eax 2 is the older version,4 is the updated from my understanding you should be just fine!

Let me know how it works out for you.

    Oh,BTW... it was nothing!

Just incase you were wondering (I was!) EAX stands for Environmental Audio Extensions. Now we both know.

If ya need the original drivers disc, I believe I have the same card. The audigy cheapy. Just bought it off Ebay this week and came with drivers disc. So I could make a iso and upload it to megaupload or something. Let me know!

And forgot. You want to know the name and sp3ecs of the ram? Well go find aida 32 or buy everest. The free version of everest is still floating round somewhere. In the one box it will list make, serial number, timings, etc. Unless it is a no name oem stick, then usually nothing comes up!

    @ozzy 214
Yeah the ram consists of 1 no name stick and 2 from Hyundai. So I think I might just buy some off a online vendor as I cant find any vendor that carries Hyundai which leads me to believe it wouldnt be any good for what Im doing. And thanks for the offer to upload the cd, if you could that would be cool. I would probably try swapping out the drivers on the disc with the updated ones. But yeah if you could that would be great. Do you happen to know how long files stay on megaupload? I have dial-up and my aunt has graciously agreed to let me use her wireless highspeed connection anytime i want. So if megaupload only holds the files for a couple days Ill have to make plans to go to her house. thanks again.

I think megaupload holds the file for 30 days and deletes them after that if no one is downloading. Besides you are better of with the high speed to download it. Its probally 600 mbs, so im going to zip it up with win rar and break it into a few pieces. So you might want to go over there. Give me a day or less to upload. I only have a 768 upload so it works out to about 80 kbs.. You could do me a favor in return. If you happen to have a ati radeon driver disc with the dvd decoder program on it, I would apprecaite if ya upload it. I just bought a 9800 all-in-wonder with no drivers disk. I can download the updated drivers, but I cant download the dvd decoder without the disk. Let me know. And soon as Im done uploading I will post the links here. Unless a mod states otherwise, since its not warez. Its technically just a driver disc and no copyright infringement, yeah know. Look back tonight or tommorrow morning.

Oh...btw way. The no name stick is probally oem, but the hynduai is actually decent ram. I have a stick of 128 sdram in my little work comp. God knows how old it is, but it works fine. And the little pentium 3 is stable with that stick, a stick of pny 128 and a no name 256 stick..LOL!

Well heres what I found. The card I currently have is from diamond and on there driver cd there was a small setup file for "Free DVD Codec" is this what you need? The card is a Radeon 9250. Let me know and Ill mail it to you megaupload it or whatever you prefer.

Actually I would need the whole disc. Because the dvd decoder verify's the disc to make sure you have genuine radeon. It sounds like the right one though. If you want to mail a copy, I can pm my mail addy. Or you can upload to megaupload like I did. Whichever is easier.

To give yeah a idea, they sell them on ebay. This is what im looking for

Just to make sure we are on the same page

I looked at the ebay link you gave me. My cd doesnt look like that one but thats not a big deal. The cd has Radeon drivers on it and DVD Coded and DVD Software so I assume its what u need? My first chance to upload this will be at my aunts house today (sunday). I have winrar, but am unsure how to split the archive into smaller pieces like you have. Can you tell me how?

I took a snapshot of it. But basically create the iso of the disk. Then right click on the iso and select add to archive. One you hit that, this screen will come up. And you select the size you want in the boxI circled. Megaupload will allow 256 mb total each file, but I dont quite remeber how to get a custom split size with winrar.

I had some problems with megaupload is can I try just sending you the DVD software and DVD Codec/driver software and see if that will work? When I insert my disc I dont need to verify anythign with a serial and when I "install" stuff (besides the driver) it just copies the setup files to my pc. If emailing it wont work Ill upload it one way or another.

You need the whole disc. Unless you go over to ati and download the dvd decoder under the all-in-wonder drivers for me and email me that.

    This is what ati says

requires an original installation CD to validate the DVD Decoder update).
