im very new to this so im not sure if im making sense, but this is the story. i just got a hp dvd-rw drive. they gave me a dvd-rw disc and i bought some dvd-r's. i used dvddecrypter or whatever its called and extracted a real dvd to my hd. i then used nero to burn it, and when i play it on my dvd player, it plays perfectly with dvd quality and all, except ever so often it seems like it skips or like freezes for 1 second. and i have an apex dvd player, which i know already plays almost any kind of file except divx. in addition... i tried many diff movie files besides this dvd one- i tried and mpg and then an avi and they all get the same result.. so basically it seems to have a skip in the file every once in a while after burning. i have no clue as of what to do
It is almost certainly the discs and nothing else. I have had the same problem when using Princo (from Datawrite) red top 4x discs. Believe me it is the discs as I've gone through a complete process of elimination. It doesn't really bother me if it freezes for a second but I agree it's annoying and shouldn't happen. It doesn't happen with other discs I've used so needless to say I'll be changing them soon to either Ritek or Verbatim.
I have to disagree with Discmania. While the media you are using is a good place to start looking for the problem, it isn't the only possibility. What speed are you burning at? I've seen it where DVD's burned at 4X don't play but if they are burned at 2X they play fine. Remember that a store bought original disc has physical grooves, while the burned discs use a colour dye to create the simulated grooves. Also I've found that after using DVDdecrypter to rip the disc you need to use DVD2one to re-encode it before burning it with Nero. Another option is the free download of DVDshrink to do both steps with one piece of software.
Discmania - you seem awful sure it has to be the discs. As Ken says, there are other possiblities. My advice is to try DVD Shrink as Ken suggest, both a 2x and 4x. Sometimes when burning at 4x you can find that between each VOB File, there is a slight pause. This shouldnt happen, but it does. Slower burning speeds can correct this. Next Discmania will be telling you there is no such thing as a HP DVD Writer - lol ;-)
