AVI to DVD using DVD2one

I am converting avi files to DVD format, and am wrestling with the problem of quality vs quantity. (I do not want to do VCD or sVCD.)
If I want to put 200 mins of DivX-encoded video on 1 DVD-r (audio at 192) I have to use a bitrate of about 2867. This yields OK quality video at best, and i have considered dropping my resolution to 352x 240 to try to improve quality.
However, then I thought about DVD2one, and began to wonder if it could help me. What if I were to encode the 200 minutes at regular DVD resolution and a higher bitrate (say 5000, yielding about 7GBs), author it, and then compress it onto one DVD-r via DVD2one.
Any thought on whether the final product would be of noticeably higher quality via the second method?

Are you using TMPGEnc to encode the avi to a vob format? If not, try that!

 

I am encoding with TMPGenc, and have no problem encoding, authoring, and burnign a DVD. However, I am theorizing that DVD2one could possibley be used to improve the resultign DVD. Essentially, I am wondering is which of the following two processes would give me a better quality result:

1) Reencode the DivX AVI to MPEG2 with TMPGenc at a bitrate to fit a blank DVD-r (ie, 2867kbps for 200 mins of video with audio set at 192). Then author the DVD (Spruce-up), and burn.

OR

2) Reencode the DivX AVI at a much higher bitrate (achieving higher quality MPEG2 files) and author the DVD (which would yield a file much larger than 1 blank DVD-r). Then run the resulting VOBs through DVD2one and burn the compressed VOBs to DVD-r.

Essentially, I wonder if encoding higher quality MPEG2 files, authoring them, and then compressing them with DVD2one would yield better results than just encoding the AVIs directly to smaller MPEG2s (lower bitrate) and not using any secondary compression.

 

I personally would go with your second option, although slightly longer, it is more likely to yield the better results. Im not sure i would use DVD2One to compress it though if you are looking for the best possible quality. Pinnacle Studio 8 takes a lot longer but produces better results. DVDCopy Xpress as well.

No,
You can't re-encode DivX with DVD2one, which is a compresser rather than an excoder....refer to the above posts to see what I am doing. I am actually experimenting right now with a series of captures of TV shows.

 

I still think option 2 will give you the better result. Tell you what, try it out and post the results for us!
