first, I would like to say thank you to who ever can help me. I was given a gift certificate for itunes and I bought several show's like scrubs, lost and desperate housewives but realized I could not put them onto dvd due to something called DRM protection or something like that. I believe it's bull that you can only play these things on itunes, it's ok to buy these from them but then that's all you get. maybe it's just me but I believe that's wrong. anyway, my question is do they have a FREE program out there that can convert my video m4v files to dvd or any other format without stopping half way through the conversion? I do not even own a ipod or any mp3 player so i'm not sure why I got the gift certificate anyway. I've tried tunebite and allok quicktime and both stopped during the process per trial results. please any ideas let me know.
You can't convert it. Welcome to the wonderful world of Digital Rights Management (DRM) and why millions of people are pissed off. And why it was a mistake to buy an iPod (assuming you did) as you are now enslaved to that device, unless you want to re-purchase all your content from scratch. And you may have to anyway when, sometime down the road, Apple decides to add a new "feature" or if they just plain want you to re-purchase all your content.
Although cracks to DRM schemes crop up every once in awhile, schemes like Apple's Fairplay are networked and so new encryption keys and software updates can be pushed to fix them. It's not worth the hassle, not to mention illegal. My suggestion is to cut your losses now and dump Apple, iPod, and any other DRMed shit. It will cost you much less in the long run.
Oh, and before election time comes around, find out if your congressman or senator is shilling for the entertainment industry, and weigh that into your decision whom to vote for.

-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

@ dunker,thanks for the reply I appreciate it. I did want to let you know there are programs that can convert these files but I am looking for one that's FREE. the ones that can convert m4v files to dvd or other format that cost money are tunebite and allok quicktime. they both have trial versions but only let you convert each file to 50%. any more ideas please let me know.
