    I bought a OEM processor from newegg, its a Amd64 3400+.
It is not going to come with a fan/heatsink.
I have a retail fan/heastsink that came with the processor I have now
which is Amd64 2800+. I was wondering if it would be ok if i just used that one for my new processor. Its the same socket size just a little faster. It would only be for a short while,
until i find a better one. Someone told me that i shouldnt do it because the retail fan/heatsinks only work for the processor that it came with.somthing about the fan not spinning fast enough, something like that?
    Any advice?
    Thanks.

If it fits it will work.
It will not be rated high enough to keep it cool as intended.
    You have two options:
You can just see how hot it gets and decide if it is good enough, or just clock the cpu down to a lower speed and keep it cooler until you get a good cooler.
I always recommend the Arctic Freezer as an air cooler for AMDs.
