well im on a budget as i am an unemployed teen...lol heres the parts that i have chosen and i would appreciate alot of feedback for better parts, better bang for the buck then those that i have chosen Please dont tell me what ive chosen will be obosolete or i should wait for some other CPU because i currently have a pentium 4 with a MSI i845 MObo with stock everything so this is a big time upgrade for me i already have OS(XP pro) and moniter, mouse, keyboard, dvd reader/writer this is what ive chosen AMD athlon 64 3500+ Am2 Socket 89$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103633 BIOSTAR TForce 6100 AM2 Socket AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Micro 75$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138027 Western Digital Caviar RE WD1600YD 160GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM 67$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136009 1GB GSKILL RAM - $85 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231085 PSU 400w 42$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104953 APEX midtower 350w 31$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811154054 for the graphics card im willing to wait on it because i only have around 400 right now the total for the above comes out to 389$ w/out tax/shipping if there area any better things for cheaper or things i should change please tell me
Well if I had to make any suggestions. I would go a different way. I wouldnt be going socket AM2. It may be the newest thing but the newest stuff costs more. Look at socket 939 and how long it stayed around. Maybe not new tech but it most likely wont be obsolete for a long time. This is the current cpu I use and very highly recommend for a gamer on the budget. A socket 939 amd 3200+. At http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103535 and currently $80. For a motherboard for the builds I do as a business and for myself I have never encountered any problems using Abit and Asus boards. Here is a Abit board thats outfitted with 4 3/Gb Sata ports, i believe gigabit lan,2 pci slots, 2 pci express slots, 3 pci x1 slots, supports up to 4gb of DDR 400 ram running in dual channel mode, nForce4 chipest so SLI support is there. Its a full size ATX mobo model Abit KN8 SLI (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813127225). For a Hard drive theres no point building a new system off old standards and like you chose a 3/Gb hard drive wuold be best. But at $67 for 160Gb there a better options for a mere $20 more. Here are two Seagate drives, both sporting 16mb of cache, 7200 rpms, and Sata 3/GB interfaces. One is $79.99 and offers 250GB of storage and the other offers 320GB of storage for $94.99. For a videocard for the gamer on the budget I would recommend a 7600GT by either eVGA or BFG Tech (as they both offer lifetime warranties for as long as you own the card, other companies say "lifetime" but its only for the products shelf life) all 7600GT cards do NOT require to have a power cable plugged into them and the cards support SLI. So heres a recap of: Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813127225 CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103535 Hard-Drive(s): 250Gb: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148144 320Gb: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148140 If you intend to buy a power supply dont buy the cheapest one their is. It wont be dependable and could fry your PC's components. And most (if not all) 7600GT videocards are in the $160-$169 price range and none of them require external power so you could save money on the power supply.
well i decided to change my mobo but im sticking with am2 as it is only 20 dollars more expensive and will be around a bit longer then amd64's im going for a 250gb seagate sata for about 70 dollars and still lookin for a decent 100$ or less gpu
$100 or less? Then, you my friend, need an X800GTO look it up at newegg and you can find it for $89. Your best power/price ratio available as of now.

@furashu I dont want to force anything on you but for $5 more you can get the 250GB Seagate I listed which sports twice as much cache and the new tech. perpendicular recording technology. I dont have time to put what perpend. recor. tech. is but if you want to know ill post it. I also believe that the 7200.10 was quieter and had better read/write times than its predecessor the 7200.9. I just noticed this look at the customer rating scale in the top right hand corner of the screen for the hard drive you chose. The ratings are all over the board. Now look at the 250GB I posted everyone who reviewed it gave it 5 stars.
at peainthepod yeah i dont know much about HDD right now as i just got into PC hardware a week ago lol thats why i posted this here so i can get better reccomendations i know i will be able to acheive the Comp i want with tthis budget! any other reccomendations?
dam how do u edit ur post? i can only edit my thread title sorry for the Double post but... what Mobo do u reccomend i want an AM2 but im on a budget when u guys say "get this for 5 dollars more" itll add up to like 40 dollars more lol but im still searching.... if i get a diff mobo ill have to choose a diff case... i want one with onboard video because i cant afford a GPU right now
Here is motherboard with onboard video. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128010 I have a Gigabyte motherboard and would buy another one, mine has been very stable as long as everything is installed correctly.
cool thanks thats my #1 option right now i cant seem to find any other am2 sockets with onboard video for a decent price the others are either SLI and have no onboard video
On the hard drive I would upgrade to the 16MB cache for 5 more dollars. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148144 I just bought this Hard Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148140 and it is limited to 1.5Gb/s because of my motherboard but the hard drive is really fast.
well i decided not to get a 250gb even if it is "only a few dollars more" im on a tight budget so i cant push it so im getting 160gb seagate... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822148149 is there anything better for the same price or like 5 dollars more?
@furashu Please post what specs you are going with. Do you really want a microATX board or a full size ATX board? Or does it matter?
