Hi, I started a thread here a few weeks or so on my sisters computer, but now I am going to buy her old one (and will work on it when I get the time), and she is going to buy a new laptop.

This looks to be the best:
    http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&oc=B130RFC1&s=dhs
    With these options:
    Intel® Pentium® M Processor 735 (1.70GHz/2MB Cache/400MHz FSB)
    1GB DDR2 SDRAM 2 Dimm
    80GB 5400rpm Hard Drive
    8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
    Intel® PRO 2200 Internal Wireless (802.11 b/g, 54Mbps)
4-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery (29 WHr)
2Yr Ltd Warranty, 2Yr At-Home Service, and 2Yr HW Warranty Support

With shipping and tax it comes to around $815 +more if she wants the Accidental Damage Service.

And it dosn't seem to say, but would I assume this comes with the ac addapter?

But does the computer seem like a good deal? She is a college student, and she is not going to be using it for games or anything loke that. And she wants it to last years.

If you know off hand of any better deals, please let me know. And I also need to order it very soon.

Again thank you for any help.

Also, I am in the US. The UK site didn't help much.

I just checked on Sony's site, and pretty much the same computer as the one I found cost well over $1000. So unless someplace else has better deals, that might be out.

Should also add that it must be under $1000 counting everything.

check bestbuy.com it seems like this week they are running some good ads on notebook computers. They have some notebooks around the same price that your gona get that dell for but they are quite a bit better.

I ended up buying this laptop: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5007578

From my local Walmart. I put Office Xp and Nortons Antivirus on it, and connected it to my cable modem, but it won't go online. I ran the connection wizard, but it won't work. I open IE, and try to go to Google or something, and it says page can not be displayed.

    I hate computers.

I know I keep asking you guys for help, but just once more if you can.

try turning off the norton anti-virus and see if you can connect

keep in mind that norton is one of the worst programs on the market. basically its crap!!

I unstalled Nortons, connected the laptop to the cable modem, restarted the laptop, and still no connection. I tried to renew the IP address several times, and it says it can't.

And this is my last chance to work on it. In the morning my sister is going back to school about 2 hours away. Her roommate says that a wireless router is set up (there not in a dorm). On the laptop, messages keep poping up saying it is searching for a wireless signal, and such. Would I assume that even though I can't get it to connect through the ethernet port that it will connect through the wireless?
