the duke nukem 3d osx native installer (how to get it working with all versions of duke nukem 3d)

This information is provided here to run duke nukem 3d on mac os x this includes these versions

1.duke nukem 3d original version

2.duke nukem 3d atomic edition

3.duke nukem 3d using macsofts duke nukem 3d disk

well lets begin the information here is provided becuase of a problem that people have been having with the duke nukem 3d osx native installer for mac os x people who own the original duke nukem 3d have not been able to install duke nukem 3d because of differrent version cd-rom disks provided by 3d realms well i have a fix for this


HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED

1.the original duke nukem 3d cd-rom disk eaither mac os or ms dos version

2.roxio toast or other burning application that supports iso

3.this information provided here

well lets start i ran into a problem while trying to install duke nukem 3d original version and i couldn't figure out why it wouldn't let me install it well i found out why

several versions of duke nukem 3d have a cd label like this

duk_reg or duke_3d

well the installer for mac os x is looking for this label

PC Atomic Edition CD-ROM (exactlly spelled with capitals or this wont work)

without this title it wont work or read the original duke nukem cd rom disk

so how to fix this

well on the original duke nukem 3d cd there is called a directory dn3dinst copy this directory/folder to your desktop on you mac

then change the directory/folder name to this

atominst

even if you do not own the atom editon of duke 3d you need this directory

now start up roxio toast

go into iso 9660 and drag the folder atominst to the files to be burned area in toast


now make sure the folder itself is there in thhe burn option

now name the cd PC Atomic Edition CD-ROM exectly as it is spelled here

now make sure all of the files are inside the folder atominst and the folder is inside the cd as well so your cd should look like this

PC Atomic Edition CD-ROM/atominst/

now the reason for the iso in toast is you have to burn the iso in dos and windows format using toast once you burn this disk you can now use any installed version of duke nukem this includes all versions warning you need to change the duke nukem 3d main directory on the cd to atominst for all installations of duke nukem 3d

 

UPDATE IN THE MAC VERSION OF DUKE NUKEM THERE IS A SPECIAL SET OF MAPS CALLED THE BIRTH IF YOU USE THE MAC VERSION THESE ARE AVAILIBLE IF YOU USE THE PC DISK TO INSTALL DUKE NUKEM 3D THE BIRTH APEARS ON THE SELECTION SCREEN BUT WILL JUST RETURN YOU TO THE DESKTOP BECUASE IT DOESN'T EXSIST IN THE PC VERSION
