ok well I just got a new computer from a friend who works at ATI. My specs are. Motherboad: P4GD1 Video Card: Ati 850XT Platinum 256 MB PCI-Expres CPU 2.8 P4 512 MB ram DDR1 and The temperature is I guess too high.. right now I downloaded a program that monitors the the cpu temperature and its 82 degrees which I assume isn't good. Any suggestions?? I just went to the cpu technician just to add some thermal paste and jsut got back and that doesn't can some one help me please..
Did you try updating the BIOS? sometimes the BIOS reports the temperature incorrectly. Also, is the heatsink fan spinning? how about the case fans? Are your cables tucked out of the way inside so that you have adequate airflow through the case? Is it 82 degrees celsius or Fahrenheit? If it's 82F, then that is nice and cool, excellent actually. If it's 82C, then yeah, that's too hot.
yea its 82 Celcius.. and yea I checked the fans.. no dust in them or anything both seem to be running fine.. sticked my finger in the cpu fan.. lol.. and guess I learned my lesson since it got caught.. so.. yea.. its spinning well..
as well as I have a program that shows how much RPM per minute for each fan such as power supply fan as well as cpu fan.
that I will check.. but when the technician took out the fan.. the cpu came up with it.. and he put it back in
are you using Bios version 1006? http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us It's the 6th revision of the Bios since the board was first released, so several problems were fixed. Try flashing it if it's not already using that BIOS. However, I think ddp is probably right. I know you had thermal paste applied by somebody, but perhaps you should clean and reapply with AS5 and reseat, or bite the bullet and get a better aftermarket HSF.
