I have intel P4 with H/T at 3.2. it came with it on my dell 8400 computer. what i want to do is to upgrade that CPU to intel DUO core. Now how do i remove P4? I could get CORE DUO on newegg.
I meant the core duo. Not core 2 duo. EDIT: why can't my motherboard upgrade CPU? I though i just remove the old one and put the new one in. Don't you just need to match the CPU Socket Type?
oh ok, i never knew core duos worked in desktops. anywho, the point is: 1. Disconnect the fan from the motherbard (obvious but ya know...) 2. Remove the heatsink. There should be some clips on the heatsink, release these and you should be able to pull it right off. 3. There is a lever/clamp that firmly holds the processor in the socket. You must pull the little brown/tan handle out (away from the socket) and up. It goes out perhaps 1/4 inch and up 90 degreee. Once this clamp has been released you should easily be able to lift the processor with your fingers. Be extremely careful with all the pins on the processor as they bend out of alignment with very little force. EDIT: Core 2 Duo's only work with newer chipsets, I.E. the 925X chipset on your motherbard won't run with a core 2 duo. anyway, core 2 duo's are s775, and the core duo's at newegg are s478, so if your comp supports one, it won't support the other.
bios also determines if can use a dual core cpu so check dell if your board can be upgraded to dual core
if the bios is not programmed for about the dual core than it won't post. ran into that when going from a northwood dye celeron to prescott dye celeron of same speed, no post.
I don't think duo core work in my motherboard. I guess the only option is to overclock my cpu. anyone know how?
yes but make certain the board fits into case alright. can't put an atx board into a case that only accepts uatx board.
Hi guys, Just a thought, why upgrade the CPU for such a small gain? Your original CPU is HT and runs at 3.2 not shabby by any standard. Mark
Hi, I also have a dell 8400 with an intel p4 3.4GHZ processor and Im thinking about upgrading to an intel D 820 to overclock it. Could anyone perhaps suggest a good motherboard and tell me if my two 512MB (1gig total) of 400 megaherz DDR2 dual channel ram is good or fast enough to use for overclovking the intel D 820. thank you.
I'm all out of money right now so i can't afford Duo core 2 CPU. So can anyone give me a guide or tell me how to overclock my CPU to 3.4? I don't think it'll have any problem running 3.4 since a lot of people is doing it and never had problems with it. I have a lot of fans so heat isn't my problem.
no i can't. Dell lock the motherboard. But i know there is program where you can unlock it and stuff. Is there??? This is my first time overclocking so i don't know anything. It is possible to overclock a intel cpu bought from dell right?
ask him about that software than but doubt it works properly. why oc it as seems stupid to me to fry your system for a couple hundred mhz
so you don't overclock your PC DDP? So even going 3.2 to 3.4 will burn out the motherboard? Please tell me because i don't want to risk it. But i heard a lot of people are doing it and I assumed it didn't have that much effect.
