    Okay; now I've been searching all over the net to find a decent way to setup a network; but my main question is do you need a switch or a router???

    Because;;; recently; my uncle mailed me all the 'necessary stuff' to get started; the only thing is; he sent me a switch; so I was wondering how I'm supposed to share the DSL connection with a switch????
    (I thought he was gonna send me a router)

    Anyway; 'cause I did some research and I don't know if its poss to share internet with a switch; a lot of people say it only works with a router; but then others say you can also use a switch;;; so can someone give a good answer so I know if my uncle sent me the wrong networking device or not??
    TIA;

    P.S. As for the debate as to if it's poss. to share an internet conn. with a switch; here's what I mean when I say some people say it's poss. and otheres say no: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/?qid=20060704004918AAms6MM

    have you gone to school man?

    over there, they use a router, but the router has lots of ports to connect a computer.

    so thats a switch

    thats very complicated so best thing is to buy a wirless router and connect computers to that.

    Damn right I go to school:); and no; they don't have a wired network; it's a wireless Mac Network.

    but I think you're right about it being better to get a router;)
