ok... my DVD +- RW drive just died.. snifff.
Now I have to get a new one , for the past week I m looking around, and I think Pionneer DVD drive look pretty good. Anyway , I don t know if I should by an external DVD +- RW drive like SONY DRX 71OUL ( external)or Pioneer DVR-111D ( internal) and then buy a usb case?
I really want an external drive but what Im trying to say is I think that internal ones are "stronger".. Am I right?

    Pentium 4 CPU 2.26
    1.25 Ram
    creative Audigy 2ZS

I would be very thankfull if anybody could give me suggestions or ideas.
    Thx.

If you buy an internal and put it in a case, make sure you do your homework as far as which drive works best with which case chipset...

They have the Plextor 740 UF (which is the BenQ 1640 external model) for $70 shipped on eBay. I got one from a seller called "Dealtree" that was brand new in the box. I can't vouch for the numerous other sellers there. Most of them seem to have "open box" units. I would steer clear of those and see if I could find a listing for an unopened one.... Otherwise, try NewEgg... I have a Pioneer internal in an aftermarket case as well, but from now on, I am going with a retail external that is a model or so behind the latest and greatest. That way I get a MUCH better deal, guaranteed compatibility between drive and case, AND proven performance... When the new models come out is when you can catch vendors trying to get rid of all the previous ones... Shop smart!!!

Just out of curiosity, why the need for external...why can't you buy an internal drive and install it internally?
