Hey I was looking at this dell computer with no monitor for $460 bucks canadian (tax already included) I was hopeing someone could tell me if this is a good computer for burning moveis and playing games( I will update vid card to like a geforce as it comes with an integrated). SPecs - Intel P4 HT 524 1024mb ddr2 sd ram 80gb HD 1mb L2 cache windows xp - Bunch of software I dont care about. 16x dvd burner (obviously Dual layer) 533 mhz FSB thanks for the input.
that sounds to me like a pretty good deal but you might also want to upgrade your hd if you are going to be storing movies
I can add another 80 gb for 50 bucks, its a dell computer. Forgot to mention, is ddr2 sd ram good or is the SD junk:? thanks for the help.
its canadian s3a, and as of sd ram it is good insted of 50 for another 80 GB hard drive you might considerr getting 160 for only 4 dollars more http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822145091
That is an amazing deal! If you are trying to stay low on money instead of upgrading HDD's like Nissan101 said, just buy a pack of 100 DVD's. Think smart, buy smart.
thanks. 80gb hd is good enough for me because I dont leave 8gb movies on my laptop right now which is 120gb, so any rxtra hd would be usless to me. Do you guys believe with a new vid card (can you add one if theres a n agp or pci-e slot available? Im not sure if you can turn off the integrated card. That this pc would be good enough for some pretty good gaming? I dont plan on playing the newest games on highest quality, I just wanna knw that the specs (except the vid card) will basically run everything that is out now? thanks very much, I would love to buy from Newegg but they down ship to Canada.
Actually I think im gonna go with this one. it seems like a better pc. Processor Type AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Processor Speed 2.2GHz RAM 512MB DDR (Expandable To 4GB) Hard Drive 160GB (7200RPM) 2MB Cache Optical Drives DVD +/- 16X Multi-Format Double Layer Graphics Card See The Features Section Available Expansion Bays 2 x 3.5", 1 x 5.25" Available Expansion Slots 1 x PCI-E x 16, 1 x PCI-E x 1, 1 x PCI Cache 512KB L2 Disk Drive No Fax/Modem 56K ITU V.92 Ready I/O Ports See The Features Section Included Software See The Features Section Monitor Included? forgot to mention comes with a NVidia GeForce 6100 integrated graphics card at 128mb, i know int is crap but it must be better than a intel integrated card.
I have 6100. Its OK and will play older games like FarCry at Medium Quality. Have not yet Benchmarked it.
Sorry for all the questions (I work only part time and I wanna get the computer that is right. Its obviuos that the amd 3500+ computer is better but in real world situations is the 533mhz fsb on the dell really that slow. I realize that the amd is faster but if I buy like the same card for example an x800 for both the dell and the amd computer, are the framerates gonna be that differn't.? Becuase I could handle saving some money on the dell if for example the amd computer only saves me like 3 mins for transcoding a movie? I just wanan play games like doom 3 and Im not looking for ultimate quality but something that will last a few years besides the vid card (which cards become bad like every 3 months)
