hello guys i just bought a chinese Ipod in Iraq a couple days ago it works fine i just wanted to know how to mod the firmware if anybody knows! when i plug it in to my computer it only shows the media that i put on there and not the .bin or .exe firmware files you would expect....Is there anyway to make windows see the firmware files?

    Thanks

Apparently this is the site to use www.mympxplayer.com
But it's currently down as there moving providers...?

Found this one too which might help http://www.geocities.com/scrub50187/MP4.html

Includes an image editor - interesting
Be carefull tho, i've heard if you mess it up or install the wrong firmware, it's not reversable! -Nightmare

I would really not recommend updating the firmware, you are more likely to ruin your player and as www.mympxplayer.com is down, it will be really hard for you to get the info on how to restore it.

There are MANY firmwares out there, many will show as the same version, however they are specific to the board of the player and seeing how there are tons of different boards, your more likely to get a firmware off the net which doesn't match your player, causing it to die.

Upgrading firmware on these players WILL NOT add new features, or make features already in the player any better, they normally add better looking menus and recently, better naviagtion of files.

My advise, leave it alone, you more than likely to get a paper weight if you try to update the firmware.

So S1mp3.org has themes for your MP4 player. Lookin Good!
You apply these by extracting the firmware from your player, and replacing the images, before loading the firmware on again.

Surely this is safe, as it's only your firmware you're using and are at no risk of getting it wrong.

Anyone had experience with this, good or bad?
Also, if you use that software to extract your firmware, does it remove it off your MP4 player?

Ive had a bit of experiance with the software i just modded the skin on mine and my buddies. it doesnt remove the firmware it "Extracts" a copy of the firmware its pretty easy to use. check out there forums if you need help. you can post here as well i might be able to help....

also remember to backup a copy of your original firmware so if you mess anything up you can just reinstall your original firmware.
