I don't understand this. Please, someone who knows why, explain to me. I would really like to understand. Why would ATI make cards that are inferior to they're predecessors? I've been searching on google and everything I read suggests the x850 is better than BOTH the x1300 & x1600. Why?

If I said to you, I'm gonna give you a FREE x850 OR a FREE x1600, which would you choose? And if it's not to much trouble, provide a brief explanation on why you chose your prefered card. I wanna see how many AD people would prefer the x850 over the x1600.

    Thank you for your time.

Yes... I just got the X850XT myself..
the reasons i got this card over the other 2 u stated is because....
    1. More Pipelines

    2. Better Core or else i would have gotten the X800XL with 512mg and 16pipelines.

    3. More Bit... 256bit over the 128bit of the other 2.

    4. And the bargin for the price.

The X is generation 10. The X1 is generation 11, so newer. However, 300 and 600 are low-end and mid-range cards. 850 is a top end card. In this instance an older top of the range card is faster than a new bottom of the range card.

The 1300 is the new low-end budget card, whereas the 850 is the old top of the line card. It so happens that in one generation, top doesn't go all the way to bottom!

But why do this? Why make shitty cards? It seems the majority know they are garbage compared to the x850, so why bother?

I somewhat see your point, they are cheaper than the x1800 or x1900, but the x850 is better and cheaper than the x1300 & x1600. So wouldn't people on a budget buy the x850? It seems like a gimmick to trick stupid people out of money. They buy it cause it's new, and they think the new card is better, but its not, it's just a ploy for them to make more money.

Last time I checked, the X850 cost more than the X1300 and X1600, even the XT. Also, the X1300 and X1600 are Pixel shader 3 compliant, so have better features, as well as supporting the rest of ATI's Generation 10 goodies. The 1600s are also direct Crossfire compatible. People who don't want to spend a lot but want the new technology will buy the X1600, especially if they're not fussed about huge gaming fps.

You can get a x850 on ebay for $50 if you know how to look. So the x1600 has pixel shader 3, wow, the x850 is still better, and it has cross fire as well. Tell me, besides pixel shader 3, in what other ways is a x1600 superior to a x850?

None. The X850 is just more available on ebay because it's an older card. Trust me, I agree that the X850 is a better card for the money, but the X1600 does have its uses.

Yes, it is better for the money, but it's also a better card all around.

What uses does the x1600 have that the x850 doesn't?

Lower noise, Pixel Shader 3 and crossfire with two identical cards, that's pretty much it.

true, but not all sky rocket at the end. ebay is like an art, you have to know how to work it. i won a 50" plasma for $723. my friend won a fx-55, 2gb ram, with dual 6800's in sli for $430. they are one in a million, but they do happen, you have to find them and be there when they end. i won a x850xl for $60, i'm gonna sell it for $100. i won a $100 logitech x530 speaker system for $20. a 5 mega pixel camera for $40. a 32" LCD HDTV for $400.

it can be done, you have to know what your doing.

Buying second hand electronics doesn't appeal to me greatly, because you don't know why they're selling them, but if they're cheap and they work, then they go back on ebay for a proper price!

i love 2nd hand, i get what i want at a fraction of the price. to me, buying new merchandise is like buying a new car, its over rated and over priced. your get the same product, only difference is you dont get to take it out of the box. i'm happy with my used stuff, because i buy used, i can afford to buy more with the money i save. like my 50" plasma, if i bought a brand new one, it would cost me 5k, but i bought it used, and got one for $700. with the 4k that i saved i can buy 2 computers, a laptop, new camera, mx900, x530, x1900, even a car. i just bought a used lexus for $1200, im gonna sell it for 4k. i typically sell all the stuff i win, i only use it till i sell it, then i upgrade to something better and repeat the process. this has been working out so well for me i quit my job 3 years ago, and i don't plan to get another, i make enough money on ebay to live quite comfortably. sometimes i roll out of bed at 1pm and make 3k, the most i ever made in one day is $9400, all from used stuff on ebay.

2nd hand is my best friend.

thank you. you CAN do it too you know, like anything else in life it just takes effort and practice. i understand your point about 2nd hand, new is better than used, i won't deny it, but the dollar is my bottom line.
