Okay, I downloaded these subtitles to go with this show I downloaded, but there are problems. First, the subtitles start okay, but quickly get out of sync. I compensate by pressing Control and the arrow buttons , but I keep having to adjust.

I opened up the subtitles with Subtitle Workshop. It seems that everything is to show at the right time, but yet it doesn't. This has happened quite a few times now.

I use BSPlayer. The subtitles are .srt files.

Can anything explain why they keep getting out of sync like that?

Not sure why the subs are out of sync even after the adjustment, I don't use Subtitle workshop but a know a good way os synching with subtitle edit:

    Download Subtitleedit (Freeware) from here:
    http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Other-VIDEO-Tools/Subtitle-Edit.shtml

    install/open SE,
    OPEN FILE>filename.srt

Your screen should look something like like this:
The default framerate will be displayed where "A" is circled, you may change this at any time, which means your project is now at that framerate. You can also load a framerate from a video file by clicking "B" and browsing to desired video.

Once you have your desired framerate you must synchronize your subs to the video, click "C"

Sync window and file browser opens.
Browse to the video you wish to sync to and open.

Your screen should look something like this:
you can load a different video to sync to at any time by clicking "A"

Notice how the left WMP window is labelled "Start Scene" and right WMP window is labelled "End Scene" also notice the corresponding WMP controls for each window, as well as dropdown subtitle lists for each window. Here we will be assigning a start point and an ending point for our subtitles.

Under the right WMP window click "B" to display a list of every subtitle in the movie and select a subtitle near the beggining of the movie. Do the same for the right WMP window only select a subtitle near the end of the movie instead.(usually the first and last sentances in the movie work well)

You can jump to the selected subtitles current display time by clicking "C", this will display the frame in which the current subtitle will appear on screen, if your subs are out of sync the video frame should not match the desired display time for the selected subtitle.

Now we must sync. Use the WMP controls to position the video at the frame where you want the selected subtitle to begin- One frame for the left {beginning}, and one frame for the right (end)

Press The Sync button ("D") and SE will sync the subtitles to the video. press OK and save file (you may want to save as a different file from original). Re-open sync window to view changes.
