[bold]im thinking of building a gaming rig after xmas & am wondering which of these to get.. also, would i be able to get 1 of these motherboard & processors, wait till vista & directx10 comes out, get a directx10 card, & fit them together or will vista require a certain type of motherboard etc?[/bold] [bold]Motherboards:[/bold] GIGABYTE GA-M59SLI-S5 Nvidia Nforce 590 SLI Chipset, ASUS M2N SLI Deluxe Socket Am2 Nvidia Nforce 570 SLI MCP ATX. [bold]Processors:[/bold] AMD ATHLON 64 X2 4600+ Windsor 2000MHz L2 Cache Am2 Dual Core, AMD 4400+ X2 165 Opteron With A Toledo Core, Pentium D 805+ 2.66MHz. [bold]Graphics Cards:[/bold] ATI All In Wonder X1800XL, ATI X1900XTX 512MB, NVIDIA GEFORCE 7900GT NVIDIA GEFORCE 7900GTX NVIDIA GEFORCE 7900GX2 [bold]RAM:[/bold] 2GB CORSAIR DDR400 PC3200 XMS TWINX MATCHING PAIR, 2GB CORSAIR DDR400 PC3200 XMS2 TWINX MATCHING PAIR. [bold]The Only Reason The Pentium D Is In There, Is Because In This Months PCFormat Magazine, They Did An Overclocking Feature & Were Able To Overclock It From 2.66GHz To 4.01GHz & It Costs Less Than £100. Or Would I Be Better With A High Speed Single Core AMD? I Would Really Appreciate Some Help Here As There Are So Many Parts To Choose From, Each Claiming To Be Better Than The Other.[/bold] [bold]My Specs Just Now:[/bold] AMD ATHLON 64 3000+ 2.00GHz Socket 754, ASROCK K8upgrade VM800 Socket754 AGP, Nvidia Geforce 6600 256MB AGP, SAMSUNG 250GB SP2504C SATA HDD, 256MB ELIXIR DDR400 PC3200(The 2GB CORSAIR DDR400 PC3200 XMS TWINX MATCHING PAIR COMES ON FRIDAY OR SATURDAY), HARMAN/KARDON SOUNDSTICKS II, ONBOARD 5.1 CH Sound,(Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS 24BIT 192KHz 7.1CH Comes Next Week), 1X SPEEZE Hard Drive Cooler With 2 Fans, LOGITECH Desktop Cordless Mouse & Keyboard EX 110. the D805 generates loads of heat and uses loads of power when clocked that high, and coupled with the recent AMD price cuts it would be better to get an AMD. I don't think Opty 165's for AM2 exist do they? Between the 4400 and 4600, 4600 wins becasue AMD have cut the price of the X2 3800, the X2 4200 and the X2 4600 by more than half, so if you were to find a X2 4400 it would be far more expensive than the X2 4600. You can't use DDR memory with AM2 motherbards, only DDR2. The Best gfx card is the nVidia 7950GX2 (not nVidia 7900GX2, that's bigger and uses more power). Just my $0.02, but if your going to get a DX10 card when they come out, it seems silly to buy any of the expensive graphics cards you listed, just to replace it replace it so soon. As far as i know vista will not require a special motherbard. I acn't advise on the mobo as i've never had any experience with Gigabyte (but i should point out that my ASUS broke less that 24 hrs after i built my new comp)
