I have a dell 8400 with a 350watt power supply. I just added a 2nd 320 gb hard drive. I really need more power to run this drive as well as other programs. I also have two dvd writing drives , a 3.5 floppy with 1.5gb ddr2 ram. Does anyone have any ideas on what type of after-market power supply to use ? I am sure it will handle 500 watts. I do all of my pc buying through Tigerdirect. I have also gone through the forums on Dell to figure out what will work. What I have gotton from dell is buy from them and they will match one up for $240.00 . I am positive I can find one for well under $100.00 but which one ? Any help would be great . What else is in the system? 350W would be ample for a lot of systems, particularly Dells as they don't commonly use high end graphics boards.
Ive been looking into a higher power supply for my Dell e510 also. I just ordered a EVGA 7600GT OC card and a Hauppage tv tuner. I already have 2 burners and a 300gb slave, 2gb ram, dual core processor, so I def need more than 300w. Dell try to make you buy their power supply for absurd prices saying its all that will work. Luckily, I just found this.... http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/std/sku=dellconverter I tink Ill be getting one of these. Screw Dell.
wow i learnt something again i never knew that i've always replaced psu's with standard hiper ones and never had that particular problem
