I need help..Looking for a Program for free that Deletes my Whole hard drive so I can Sell my Computer..I dont want anything left in it so whoever buys it has to buy an OS for the system..Please help..My PC is custom built..I built it myself =)
There may be a better program but, I use Webroot System Eraser. It is a utility in Window Washer. Get it here http://www.webroot.com/consumer/downloads/ It has an erase utility. You can overwrite the data as many times as you like. I'd prefer 35 times, will take longer but it is more secure.
I want to delete my entire hard drive..not portions...Is there any good free program/software?? please help..thanks
Here ya go. http://www.seagate.com/support/kb/disc/faq/ata_llfmt_what.html This will lowlevel format the drive. Basically, it is a zero fill. ~Rich
Is this the same as deltleting the whole hard drive..filling zero's?? So If I do this and Sell it and somebody puts an OS it will work Perfectly?
Yep. Zeroing a drive deletes (in theory) all data on a drive. It completely removes the MBR, the FAT (or MFT) and leaves the drive completely blank.....not even a file system is initialized. The drive will need to be FDISK'd and formatted before it can be used again. ~Rich
I am new at this stuff. What do you mean FDISK'd and formatted..Explain in English step by step..I really want to sell this..help
If you plan on selling it, just download what I told you to, run i t and thats it. Leave it up to the buyer to take care of the rest. All FDISK does is partition the drive, ie. set up x amount of mb for drive C: and optionally x amount of mb for drive D:, etc. Formatting formats the drive in a certain type of file system (FAT32 or NTFS for example) and allows data to be written to it. I would just zero the drive and sell it as is. The windows install CD should FDISK and format the drive when the buyer goes to install windows. ~Rich
