I have a genuine copy of windows and i want to use boot camp on my nre mac.... but on the apple web site it sasys u need service pack 2....but my windows cd only has service pack 1 on it...does this matter? Also can u exchange files from mac to pc using boot camp? thanks Joe
Yes, you need service pack 2. It doesn't work without it. This is unfortunate for a lot of people, because you can't use a SP1 windows then upgrade to SP2 (which a lot of windows users had done). What do you mean by exchange files from mac to pc? If you format your windows partition in FAT32, then both systems will be able to read and write to that volume. However, OSX needs to be installed on a HFS formatted drive, which windows cannot read.
i can fix this go to www.google.com and type in nlite what nlite does is it allows you to copy a windows cd to your desktop in windows and then allows you to upgrade the cd to service pack 2 then creates a iso to burn to a cd-r once that is burned resintall windows with the updated service pack the only problem is you need to install your windows service pack 1 first run nlite then use nero to burn the new cd then reinstall windows to get service pack 2
i had to do this to create a windows media center edition cd to be able to run media center on my macintosh
no just copy the cd to your hard drive into a folder nlite when creating a new iso will create a new boot bin to boot the windows disk
yes nlite is VERY nice and ez to use. You could also slipstream the drivers for your mac so you dont need to run that driver disk they have you burn. Also you could take out useless crap that you dont need.
yes i know nlite is a gold mone of a application and it has it's problems have anyone ever heard of media center lite edition well some stupid hacker tried to create a iso for everyone to download of media center edition windows and the moron didn't know what he was doing with nlite and took out all activex controls out of the operating system sounds cool huh untill you try to access the active x controls for windows media center itself this is what i call a dumb hacker moment
As much as it sucks, you can buy a brand new licensed version of Windows XP at your local PC shop for $100. Just ask for the system builders version. That's what I had to do because I, like you, had SP1. I couldn't burn the disc image as the other users recommend because I had no PC to run the utility since mine took a shit, that's why I bought a Mac. This to me was the best choice since I had no further ambition to sit in front of my comp running a bunch of shoddy, free utilities in an attempt to save a few bucks. Consider the $100 as a purchase to save your sanity.
