Is there anyway to format a drive from FAT32 to FAT?

When I go to the format screen it only lets me choose NTSF.

    Thanks

FAT only supports a maximum parition size of 2 gigs, so if your partition is larger than that you don't get the option to format in FAT. I think the limitation may be 4 gigs in some implementations, because I have seen some 4 gig flash cards formatted in FAT instead of FAT32.

Why would you want to go to FAT instead of FAT32 anyway?

FAT is not a very efficient file system. Plus its ages old for hdds. Any particualr reason you are avoiding NTFS????

i had a similar quandry the other day, bought a huge 320gigger and couldn't format to FAT32 using the admin tools in XP. then the penny dropped (i was tired!) and i remembered the FAT32 limit was every so slightly never in a million years going to recognise all 320gb, so i created 4 FAT32 partitions of 30gb or so (this was so i could write to the partitions in linux as to my knowledge linux still can't write to NTFS, well not without having a degree in engineering anyhow).anyways i'm rambling; as per the other guys, any reason not to just go NTFS ?
