Hello all! I'm having a recent issue with my XPS B system. I recently installed a 4 port USB 2.0 card in the machine, and everything works fine. Yesterday, I had cause to bring the machine down for a while. From its shutdown state, when I plugged it back in and hit the power button, it 'revved' for a second and then shut down again. I pressed the power button again. Same thing. You can hear the fans spin up and then shut down. Pressing the power button continuously in a rapid fashion (revving) gets it to the post area where it becomes stable and continues to boot. There are no other problems than this. It seems like a really odd thing... reboot works fine, machine runs fine, it just won't rise from a total shutdown gracefully. Any ideas?
it seems like it could be a bad power supply. the initial start-up sounds like its not getting the burst of energy it needs to boot up. never encountered that problem but that seems the most likely problem. my other reason could be a bad usb card. for some reason it may short the system out from boot up. all in all your best bet is to call dell and have them check it out. wierd problem never heard of it
i dont think it'd be the usb card causing the problem but you should unplug it to rule out the possibly. i think rogeball is right this kinda problem usually involves a bad psu. if you still have a warrenty harass dell and get them to replace it lol. if it is the usb card, just get a usb hub u can daisy chain them for up to like 127 devices or so.
