hiya my sister left her pc on over night, she then gets up in morning and its switched on still but no screen showing, she tried switching it off and it wont. she then unplugged it from the mains plugged it bach in and wont start, the only way it starts is if you push the socket slowley into the psu, it starts up but nothing shows up on the screen. so i was wondering if anyone had any ideas, ive tryed swapping the psu just to see what happens and its the same, treid different ram and nothing so hopefully someones got some ideas for me to try as i dont know much about the insides of pcs. hope i posted it in the right forum. thanks in advance
well that happened to me the motherboard was damaged swap the mobo (if u can) to confirm it is the mobo since u changed the ram and psu so it could be the proc or the mobo or both
Just curious. Do you have any type of power conditioner/surge suppressor for the PC? Sounds like it took a power spike and cooked something. Are you sure its the PC and not the monitor? Maybe the monitor burned out and the pc is fine. Does the monitor have an onscreen display for settings? If so, can you see it? ~Rich
nah she doesnt have surge protecter so somethings prob fried like ya said, ive treid it on my monitor and doesnt show out up.think poss the motherboards gone so mite have to buy new one for it. thanks for the help
same thing happened to me,well i pc one day just wouldn't start, the box's lights came on but stayed red and the moniotr would not switch on at all,it came ona dn then went off again and showed an orange light,so i rang up my insurance and they gave me the details and i took my pc to teh store and they said a power surge fried the gpu, cpu, ram etc, everything but the hdd,i rand up my insurance, they rand up teh pc place, said it's all good and i came back and teh pc place built me a new pc to teh value of $2500 and i walked out smiling as my insurance paid for the pc,but i now have a surge protector on my pc,and my tv,it's way to risky...so it really is teh best thing to have...
