I just got this old laptop (Compaq Armada 7400)and I was told by a self proclaimed genius where I work that it was overclocked and would burn up before long. Here are the specs is this alright? I am not familiar with much beyond windows. x86 family 6 Model 6 Stepping 10 Genuine Intel~365mhz Thanks This is my first post.
I have no idea of the history of that computer, but laptops don't just overclock themselves, someone must have done it. 365mhz doesn't sound very right, but it could be. I'm not all that good with the steppings of older P2s/Celerons but you may want to look up some model numbers to see what it should be.
I googled it ran across acouple it seems some have 400MHZ CPUs and soem have 300MHZ CPUs altho I cant realy tell if the lower oen is jsut clocked back or not. http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/10015_div/10015_div.HTML http://gizmos2go.com/xcart/product.php?productid=2195 I ahve a tobisha 450 P2 myself its mobile "program" changes the CPU speed and such when it gets lower on power it might be set to save power and keep the CPU running low. Unless you can spot a CPU change program or change the CPU speeds in the bios I a at a loss on the speed you qouted.
sammorris I dont know about newer laptops but older oens saved power by cutting back on the CPU clock ,it all realy depneds on what he/she has. mabye if they ahve a model and serail it can be found on goolge or on compaqs page.
You want to go and have a look at either the multiplier settings or the front side bus. However, at 366mhz it sounds right. 365 is odd, but 366 is allowed.
I googled it today end they said xp will not aalow access to bios once installed on armada 7400.I believe my only recourse is to wipe hard drive and start from scratch. Will this be worth it? thanks
bowhntr01 you need to make sure the bios is what is controlling the CPU throttleing. these hits point to you need the DIAGS partition in order to config your laptop. the frist one has links if you dont have have any. the other says it boots fine from CD and floppy if you got it,so you should be able to get it running it depnds on how easy they made the DIAGS stuff.. http://www.computing.net/drivers/wwwboard/forum/4225.html http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/...48873&admit=-682735245+1156643832573+28353475
I never tried to put XP on mine it has ME and dose ok I guess *L* its a Tobishia. if you need more thngs to look up ask I am sure I can drowen you in homework >< sorry I am not the greatest of help f I had it in front of me I could do soemthign more with it,but doing it over the net i can only be of so much help ,plus I have only messed with acouple laptops so I am not the best with them *L*
hey zip checked both links.1st one only confirmed im stuck with xp. the 2nd had an attachment that I think was referring to partitioning the drive which for me was like trying to read chinese.although I know what DOS is I would never attempt to navigate it. Thanks for everyones help. bowhntr01
I guess ill just leave it.It hasnt locked up or anything."YET" just added a 128 mem chip, now has 192 mb ram. Will get another soon. If I dont put too many other programs on it should it do ok? thanks bowhntr01
bowhntr01 http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php downlaod and isntal this it displeys the temp of the temp sencors in your PC,altho your mihgt not have any at least with this yu can see what temp your CPU is if its 40-48 thats not to bad for a laptop anyhtign above 53 or 54 might be a sign that its running to hot. did you check thos links? did they want to run the program off the floppy or format the drive?
I am not sure it that coutns as CPU but the temp is not bad. mmmmmmmmm its at times liek this when haveign a spare HD coems in handy *L* I guss unless someone says better you can put it off,but deffinately soemthign to check when you have a weekend to paly reinstall with 2 OS's 0_o
just noticed that after installing new ram my processor speed dropped from 365mhz to 170mhz.What happened? The ram I installed was 100mhz and the old ram was 66mhz.
Oddiests in ramm lappys are bad about it,try swaping places put the 66 where the 100 is,then test it with the 100 alone. it it jumps to 400 then we know the ram was holding you back.
thanks Ill try that tonight when I get off work. You've been very helpful and it is much appreciated. will post tommorow to let u know what happens. bowhntr01
