OK, I've come to the conclusion that my Toshiba DVD burner has died. What's the best one to replace it with?

Why do you think it died?
What's it doing, or not doing?

Tigerdirect has the NEC ND-3550A for $19.99 after rebate. It's a great drive. My only quibble is that it doesn't bitset single-layer DVD+R, but you canfix that by using the Liggy's and Dee's firmware from rpc1.org. The Lite-On SHM-160P6S has a good rep, as does the Benq, but the Lite-On can be had for $29.99.

I went to compusa and bought my burner. It was made for Compusa by Benq. Model 1650 and got it for 49.95 on sale.
