I ripped American Pie with DVD decrypter and it played back on my computer perfectly. But, when I compressed it with DVD2one it couldn't playback on my computer. It just brought up the DVD player like it was going to play, but it didn't start playing. I then tried to use DVD shrink, but I ended up with the same problem.
    Can you guys help?

Nearly anything will playback on a computer DVD player. You will need to check the compatiblility of the media you are using. Ritek G04's tend to work the best. Also, what format are you recording in? If its +R, then you may face problems with standalones.

The thing is that I didn't burn it yet. I just compressed it. Everything is fine before compression, but afterwards it just doesn't play. Is should play from the compressed file on the computer right?

Try downloading DVD Shrink <--(click here), its free and very good. Also make sure you have Adaptec ASPI drivers installed

Try PowerDVD maybe , I've never heard of someone not being able to play ripped DVD files
    from source.
Sometimes it may sound like there is no audio but after burn the audio is there.

If your problem persists I'd check hardware config on your PC
