Hey Im looking at this computer it seems real good for the price. It is the Compaq SR1820NX . Apparatnly it is 784 socket type. http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10073100&catid= Some had said that this computer can be upgraded to a socket 939 X2 amd chip. I have no idea how this is possible, becuase it isnt socket 939, I cant find too much info on this(maybe the motherboard supports 939 as well) but I have no idea. I was wondering if you guys could give me insight on it. thanks

AWESOME THANK, do you think this is a good buy? I can get the exact computer at amd 3500+ for 60 bucks more?
if in the toronto area than check this site for this amd golden system for $449Can. http://www.pcvonline.com/ http://www.pcvonline.com/systemsCont.aspx?cat=Desktop System
I dont get it. the site says thatt he COmpaq pc is a 939 mobo but the 3400+ chip is a 754 socket. IS there such things as mobo's that can accept both 939 and 754 cpus? and if so are they good? thanks
If i where you, i'd go for the one ddp linked to, i have the same AM2 mobo and similar setup, works great. I personally dislike big brand computers (HP, Dell, Compaq, Packard Bell, etc.) due to the unpredictable components and possible inability to Overclock/tweak the system.
I wanted to go with a brand like compaq. The thing is when I typpe in athlon 3400+ in google it returns as a 754 socket processor but the motheroboard is socket 939. that makes no sense to me unless compaq has screwed up in their desription. I will give them a call. thanks very much
I got the answer. THe 3400+ were developed by accident while amd was building the 3500+. AMD messed up and the 3400+ was born. It is basically an athlon 3500+ chip but with less L1 cache at 64 and is indeed socket 939 but they were only released for a short while. http://forums.amd.com/lofiversion/index.php/t51118.html does having half the l1 cache of a 3500+ processor to low, as I know l2 cache is important but if L1 is only 64kb will that make a diffrence?
