I was thinking of upgrading from an X2 3800+ to an X2 4400+ Toledo. Would the performance be greatly increased or is it even worth it? I do a lot of video converting from avi to DVD.
Well youl definatly notice some sort of improvement. But remember: Your computer is only as fast as its weakest link. so make sure all your other components can keep up with it! Lecsiy
tarboro, I'm running the X2 4400+ Toledo chip in a Asus A8N-SLI premium M/B, 2 GB Corsair PC3200 @ dual channel. I can encode 4.35 GB of DVD (sorry I don't know how many frames) in 9 mins. My Intel 3.2 Prescott, ASUS P4P800 SE , 1 GB Kingston PC3200 @ dual channel takes 12mins to do the exact same job.
You could just overclock the 3800x2 as they are extremely good overclockers easily going to 2.75+. The 4400x2 is a crap overclocker compared to the 3800x2 with a likely overclock of 2.5-2.6 on most cabs, if you are really lucky and have wastercooling you can push 2.8. The main gain would be the larger layer2 cache up from 512KB to 1MB per core
I have an HP computer. I don't think I can overclock. I may be wrong, but I think the bios is locked. It is an Asus mobo.
i'd get a intel dual core conroe,if ur mtherboard is a lga775,i was looking at them the otherday and was quite pleasantly suprized at the prices, there going for pretty cheap, only a little more than the amd x2 4400+...when will quad core cpu's come out? end of next year? and who will bring them out first,AMD??
AMD and Intel mobos don't mix. I do know that much. I just looked over at newgg and may splurge for the X2 4800+.
um yeah, they don't how would u mix em,by putting on top of eachother lol...i'm just saying k if u have amd like me,then ur mobo is probably a socket 939,but you could buy a mobo that is lga775 and then buy a conroe cpu,it outperforms any amd cpu at the moment...
