Upgrade your PSP's firmware Tutorial
2.71 Downgrading Instructions:
2.71 DOWNDATER http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/755
Requirements:
A 2.71 PSP that does not have a TA-082 motherboard. To find out if you have a TA-082 motherboard look at this:

WinRar. Download it from here: www.rarlabs.com
Downdater files: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/753
Let's get started!
PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE YOUR PSP CHARGER IN AT ALL TIMES
1.Before you start, reformat your memory stick and reset your default settings.
2.Open up and extract the downdata files that you downloaded earlier to your desktop.
3.Plug in your PSP to the computer via a USB cable.
4.Open up the MS_ROOT file you extracted earlier to your desktop and copy over the following files to your PSP's memory stick root.

5.Copy over the above 3 files and folders to this area of your PSP:
6.Now, your almost ready to start the downgrader! (Make sure you still have your charger in)
7.Exit USB mode and head over to the Photo section on the PSP.
8.Now click X on the photo section and hopefully, the downgrader will begin automatically. If not, scroll down to the “hw.tif” file and select it. You will know if the downgrader has started as your screen will go blank and the memory stick light will be flashing a lot.
9.This process may take a few trys, if your PSP freezes and switches it self off WITHOUT the memory card flashing, turn your PSP back on and scroll over to the photo section again.
10.When your memory stick light stops flashing, wait at least 30 seconds before full switching off your PSP. (To fully switch off you must hold the power butten up for 10 seconds)
11. Once your PSP has fully switched off, wait for 30 seconds and then turn on your PSP again.
12. If all went well, the PSP will pop up a scary looking blue or red screen with multiple languages showing.
Blue Screen:

Red Screen:

13. Read what it says and hit O to reboot. (If you get the red screen hold your power butten up for 10 seconds until your PSP switches off. Then turn on your PSP again)
14. After you have rebooted, hopefully you will not see the PSP's web browser! Double check you have firmware version by checking your system information. (Settings> System settings> System information)
15. If it says 1.5, you have successfully downgraded!
16. I recommend you now restore your PSP's default settings. (Settings> System settings> Restore Default Settings)
17. Your PSP will reboot and now you will be good to go.
2.71 Downdater Instructions using the easy downdater:
Requirements:
A 2.71 PSP that does not have a TA-082 motherboard. To find out if you have a TA-082 motherboard
Download the downdater program that you run on your computer (Save it to your desktop) here: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/755
PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE YOUR PSP CHARGER IN AT ALL TIMES
1.Now that you have downloaded the easy downdater and checked that your PSP hasn't got a TA-082 motherboard, we are ready to go!
2.Before we begin the downdater, reformat your memory stick and restore your PSP's default settings.
3.Now, plug in your PSP to your computer.
4.Launch the easy downdater program that you saved to your desktop earlier.
This will appear when you start the program:

5.The program will then ask you to check if you PSP has a TA-082 motherboard. (The photo show in the easy downdater is shown above in the requirements) Click on the photo in the program to continue.
6.It will then ask you if your PSP is compatible, click yes if your PSP is compatible with the downdater or click no if it's not.
This is what you will see:

7.The program will then ask you to select the drive of your PSP (Removable disk). If you don't know what drive your PSP is, click “My Computer” and in that window it should say “Removable Disk” and in brackets there is a letter. If the letter is F: you need to select drive “F:” on the easy downdater.
Here is what the program will show you:
[
8.Click next and then the program will automatically install the tools to your PSP which are needed to downgrade.
It should look like this when installing the files:

9.When it has finished copying the files accross, a message will pop up telling you to disconnect your PSP's USB cable and click “Next” to downgrade. Here is the message:

10.Once you have clicked next, the easy downdater will remind you to plug in your charger.
11.The program then tells you to go to the photo menu and click X.
12.Hopefully, the screen will go red and the memory stick light will be flashing. If your PSP's screen does not go red and just crashes, restart your PSP (Hold the power button up until it's fully off) and try again. Keep trying until it appears.
13.Next, after the red screen has disappeared and the memory stick light has stopped flashing, wait 30 seconds and then switch on your PSP.
14.You will be greeted with a scary looking blue screen, just click O and your PSP will restart itself. Check that your PSP has succesfully downgraded to 1.5 by checking the system information (Settings> System settings> System Information)
Blue Screen:

15.Now, click on the photo in the easy downgdater to continue with the program.
16.It will then ask you the question, “Got 1.50?” click yes.
What is should look like:

17. Then the program will tell you to reformat your memory card to delete all the downgrading tools. Click on the picture in the program to continue.
18.The easy downdater program will give you one last message saying what you can do with your 1.5 PSP.
19.Click close to end the program.
DOWNGRADING 2.5 & 2.6
2.5/2.6 Downgrading Instructions
To downgrade your PSP providing you have firmware 2.5/2.6 you must have an unpatched Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories PSP game. You can tell if you have an unpatched version of GTA by putting the UMD into your PSP and seeing what firmware it is.
If your PSP shows you that there is a 2.6 update on the disk, this is a patched version! If it shows you that there is a 2.0 update on the disk, you are ready to go as this is the unpatched version.
Ok so now that you are ready to downgrade, let's get on with it!
PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE YOUR PSP CHARGER IN AT ALL TIMES
1.Download the downgrader program that you run on your computer (Save it to your desktop) here:
http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/605
2.Before you plug in your PSP to the computer, reformat your memory stick from the PSP. Backup anyfiles on your computer you do not want to lose.
3.Once it has finished downloading, plug in your USB cable and make sure your computer recognises that the PSP is connected by clicking on “My Computer” and checking that it says “Removable Disk” that belongs to your PSP.
4.Navigate to your desktop and launch the Easy downgrader that you downloaded earlier
5.The program will run itself, just watch until it asks you to get GTA UMD ready for instructions later on in the tutorial.
6.Try program will then ask you if you want to downgrade, if you are unsure, I suggest you do not downgrade and turn around now. If you do want to downgrade, click “Yes” to continue.
7.The program then asks you do reformat your memory stick from the PC or PSP. We did this earlier so you can just click “Continue”.
8.An agreement is then shown on, click “Agree” to continue with the downgrading.
9.The downgrader will now ask you what firmware you have, either 2.5 or 2.6. Select whatever firmware you have.
10. It will then ask you yo select the root of your memory stick. To do this, click browse > Computer > Removable disk (Your PSP) Now click next.
11. Now on the computer it should say if you want to install. Yes you do want to install so click “Install.”
12. Now just let the program run, it is installing the downgrading tools for you.
13. When it has finished installing the downgrading tools to your memory stick, it asks you to get GTA and put it in your PSP.
14. Now you can exit USB mode.
15. Navigate over to the “GAME” part of your PSP's menu and wait for GTA to show.
16. Click on the GTA UMD and it should begin to load.
17. When the GTA game is loading at about half way there, it will load up the eLoader menu.
18. Now, select the “Downdate Test” and just wait.
19.Your PSP should look like it's switched off apart from the memory card light flashing like crazy! This is supposed happen!
20. Wait for a few minutes, and when your PSP has stopped flashing the memory stick light, it is OK to turn on your PSP.
21. Turn on your PSP and a blue screen should show up, it's telling you that some of the flash files are “corrupt” but if you click O it will reboot your PSP and ask you to set the date/time ect... Forget that, do it later.
22. Now go to your System settings and double check that you have 1.5 firmware. Hopefully you have!
23. Now, before you download any homebrew, reset your default settings. This will then restart your PSP and your ready to go! Well done on downgrading!
MPH 2.0 Downgrading Tutorial
This will ONLY WORK on a 2.0. Not a 2.01, 2.5, 2.6 and 2.7
1. You need to unzip the files MPHDowngrader.zip and EBOOT_1.50.zip. Use a program such as WinRAR, 7Zip, or WinZIP (check Google). Once they are unzipped, you're ready to begin.
2. Set up a USB connection with your PSP and your computer.
3. Once the connection is set up, open up My Computer and browse to the removable disk that is your PSP. You'll need to set a few things up here.
4. When you first double click to open up the PSP on your computer, you'll be in what's called the root menu. There will be a PSP folder showing if you are in the right place.
5. Copy over to your PSP the following files to THIS location in the root folder...NOT in the PSP folder or any other folder. Index.dat and h.bin should both be in your root directory.
This is what it should look like...

6. Once this is done, open up the PSP folder and then open up the Photo folder. Here, you will copy overflow.tif over, keeping it in the Photo directory and not a sub directory.
This is what the photo folder should now look like...

7. Now, go back to the PSP directory and go into the Game directory. If there is not already, create a folder called UPDATE. It MUST be called UPDATE and nothing else.
8. Open up the new UPDATE folder and then copy EBOOT.PBP into this folder from your computer. Once all of this is done, you're ready to downgrade. So far, so good.
This is where the 1.5 eboot update should now go...
Double check that you followed the above instructions before continuing.
Good.
9. Now, disconnect the USB connection from the computer and plug the AC adapter into the PSP. As with all upgrades, you must have a certain percentage of battery life as well as the AC adapter plugged in, or this will not work.
10. Go to the Photo icon on your PSP and scroll through the pictures to get to overflow.tif. You do NOT have to press anything. It will start automatically. Two strings of letters/numbers will appear. This is normal and good.
Your PSP screen should now appear something like this...

11. Wait AT LEAST 30 SECONDS and then turn off your PSP by holding the power button up until it fully shuts down. Then, start your PSP again.
12. You will now go over to the Game icon and scroll down to memory stick. Select it and you should see the 1.5 update.
Now select the update...

13. Select it and start it up. Go through it as you've done before with your 2.0 update and follow the prompts. When the update reaches 99% it will crash and show an error. THIS IS OKAY. DO NOT PANIC. Once again press the power switch up until it fully turns off.
This is what the update error screen looks like...

14. Now, turn the PSP back on. You will get another error. Just press the "O" button and it will restart after rebuilding the system data. Then just set it up as you did when you first got your PSP and you have a brand new 1.5 PSP. Be responsible with it.
The second error screen looks like this...

1.5 – 1.0 Downgrading Instructions:
PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE YOUR PSP CHARGER IN AT ALL TIMES
Instructions for the existing 1.0 user:
1. Copy the downhelper100 folder to /PSP/GAME/ and start the program.
2. It will dump your flash and your ipl to the memory stick. After finished, the program will exit. Send the folder created at the root of your memstick called DOWNDATER to someone with 1.50 to let him downgrade.
Instructions for the 1.50 user:
1. Copy __SCE__downdater100 and %__SCE__downdater100 to /PSP/GAME/
2. Get the DOWNDATER folder from someone with 1.00 and put it in the memstick.
3. Get the official Sony 1.50 update and put it under /PSP/GAME/UPDATE
4. Start the program.
Note: you need to set the language of your PSP to either English or Japanese before starting (anyway, it will advice you if you don’t have that requirement and it will exit safely) Also, connect the PSP to the AC adaptor.
5. After a confirmation with the X button, you PSP will be flashed to 1.00.
6. DO NOT REMOVE the memory stick and DO NOT shut down the PSP.
7. After it is finished, the program will tell you to restart the PSP.
UPGRADING
Now... It's time to tell you how to upgrade!
Here is my guide to upgrade:
1. Download the eboot file you want. For example if you wanted the 2.60 firmware, download the 2.60 eboot. Download it from the downloads section on this website.
2. Plug in your PSP via a USB cable.
3. Make a folder called "UPDATE" in the "GAME" folder on your PSP and make sure they are all in caps. This is where the eboot will be going.
4. Drag the 2.60 eboot into your "UPDATE" folder on your PSP.
5. Now unplug your PSP and plug in your PSP charger.
6. Go to the memory stick under "GAME" on your PSP and you should see the PSP 2.60 update. Select this update.
7. Now follow the on-screen instructions with your PSP charger in.
8. Once the update has finished, restart your PSP.
9. Now go to Settings > System Settings > System Information
10. Double check that the System Software is the 2.60 firmware (or whatever you updated to)
Now your DONE!
F.A.Q
F.A.Q for downgrading 2.0 - 1.5
1. When I get to the photo section on my PSP, it just freezes and turns off!
Answer: Make sure the PSP battery has at least 75% charge. If it does and it keeps happening, leave the PSP on, with the charger in for around 15 - 20 mins.
2. I can't find the overflow.tif folder in my PSP?
Answer: When downloading the overflow.tif file and transfering it to your PSP, make sure you have your Nortan Anti-Virus protection off.
3. What if I brick my PSP?
Answer: You will not brick your PSP if you download the downgrading tools from this website. If your stupid enough to download it from another website and you do brick your PSP don't come here asking how to fix it. Buy a new PSP or a new motherboard.
4. I have done everything correct and when I go to the 1.5 downgrade (under GAME>MEMORY STICK) and select the downgrade it says that I do not need to upgrade as I have 2.00 or higher.
Answer: Make sure you havn't skipped any of the steps, make sure there is no UMD in the drive, Have your charger in and make sure you have 75% battery or higher.
5.OK, I have downgraded perfectly but my screen has gone a differant colour and I can't change it!?
Answer: Use PSPersonalise to change your background and use this guide to help you... http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1135
6. When I try to run an update on my PSP, it only shows the X and O buttens... What should I do?
Answer: You need to restore the default settings on your PSP.
Got anything else to ask?
Just ask here.
thanx 2 everyone involved
the dwvhook tut in my sig is also gr8 help

first dont repeat what i said using different words. i know what you're trying to do. and it doesnt make a difference now. its already bricked. only way you can fix it is buy a new mobo. or get the modchip but thats quite expensive and u have to be an excellent solderer to put it in.
