These program's have a regular habit of after every restart, they ask me if I would like to update to the newest version, when I click yes they simply just disapear, and ask the same question on the next restart. They generally quote a newer version say 6.5 and do their disapearing act when they are accepted, is this usual.

Just go to Slysoft's site and download the updates:

    http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html

You can tell what version you have by clicking "information" when you open the settings in AnyDvd / clicking "about" at the bottom of CloneDvd2 when you first open. This is where you will get your registration/serial # if you need to correspond with Slysoft.

No, I haven't experienced the disappearing act.

This sounds very strange. I know that everyone legit one I download from the Slysoft never gives me problems--in fact, I don't think they give many people problems.
A newbie friend of mine tried to circumvent the payment process of AnyDVD and it caused him all sorts of problems when he tried to update it. When he finally paid, he didn't have any more problems.

Usually if it tells you there is an update, it will automatically go to the site through your browser to get it. Does something block you browser from opening. If you don't want to be notified and want to do it manually then turn off the option in the settings of the program.
