    Hey all,

Ive been trying to change my FAT32 filesytem on my c: drive to an NTFS one.

Ive tried doing this on command prompt this is what i do.

    I type;
    ' convert c: /fs:ntfs '

Then i get a message saying
'The type of file system is FAT32
Enter current volume label for drive C:'

    What do i put there?
(well obviously the current volume label for the drive)

But i dont know what a current volume label is?
or how to find out what the current volume label on my drive is?

    PLEASE HELP ME OUT!

thanks alot in advance for anyone willing to help.

    -Josh

Mate the easiest way to do this is put ypur XP Disc in and boot from it and then when u go through the reinstallation u can choose to convert your file system over to NTFS.

Wat I'm saying is that u dont lose any data u just copy straight over the top of your old system without loosing your files.

    Try these:

    http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/ntfscvt.php

    or

    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/convertfat.mspx

    or

http://www.ntfs.com/quest3.htm (This one will take u through the DOS Command)

    http://homepage.ntlworld.com/alistair.nichol/articles/ntfscvt.htm

    http://www.tech-faq.com/convert-fat32-to-ntfs.shtml

    and finally

    http://kadaitcha.cx/ntfs.html

I hope all these help u figure out a way. Keep me posted if u need more asistance.

Man Utd Will goo all the way this year :) *Crosses Fingers* I think the goal is to not let Chelsea Win Regardless if its u guys or us or even Liverpool.

I converted my computer from fat32 to ntfs a while ago, and this is what I did.

    Command prompt, convert c: /fs:ntfs

when asked enter current label (I too didn't have a clue what it meant) If you click on my computer, it shows you the drives, and their names. On mine, it says ACER (C:)

I entered acer, it will then go on to say that the volume needs to be dismounted enter y/n - enter n

It will then say that the computer needs to be restarted y/n-enter y

Close command prompt, restart computer, you will get the blue disc check screen. Let it run, then it will say converting to ntfs. Let it run. All this only takes a few minutes and then your computer will restart with all your existing programs and docs still intact.

    Hope this helps.

    Edit:- Wake up you Gunners!

Thanks alot basilj and borhan9 for the help,

i managed to get my filesytem changed last nite after some late nitgh searching on what a volume label was, just a fancy way of saying whats the name of the drive.

dont see why they cant just put that instead though.

    @basilj

do you support the mighty mighty Arsenal then?
