To tell you the truth, you'd be better off with an nVida card in my opinion. Less wories and greater compatibility with more games being realeased. On top of that, you get more bang for your buck.

I would go with any nVidia card in the 7 series (7800 GT/GTX)

hehe, if only that were all true, kshep92. Depends on what price bracket you're looking at. Last time I checked, a 7800GS was a lot more than an X1600. It's a bit faster, but a lot more.

7800 gs is better than 1600. the nvidia counterpart to 1600 is 7600. Id say 7600 is still better than 1600

It is. The X1600 pro is slow, but also cheap, significantly cheaper than the 7600 series, for some reason.

The price difference may have stemmed from the "product inferiority" factor lol. This may bae a bad time to bring this up but I never liked ATI. Especially since when I was new to computers and I asked for a 128 MB card and they gave me an X300 and shortly after I got it, I realised that the card couldn't even run Snood.

I still have it, longing for a money break as to buy a new one. That's why I'm going with nVidia. And to be honest, from what i've been hearing so far, the 6800/6800GT should serve you well. That's what i'm looking at buying (until the prices on the 7 series come down)

The 7800GS by far is better. But, if you want HDR with FSAA, ATi is the only way to go (x1800GTO is in the 7800GS's price range).

Well, that depends on your intentions with the VGA upgrade. Modern games are far more videocard intensive and performance is based more like Videocard=75% CPU=25%, when five years ago performance it used to be closer to 50/50. If Vista/DX10 is what you're looking for, buy a lower-mid-range card now, like a 7600GT/x1600PRO (but, still a great upgrade) and wait for DX10 videocards to come out in the semi-near future.

i have 220watt power supply and geoforce 7600 recommends 300w. if i dont upgrade my power supply .it wil still run or not and if it will run its dangerous or nothing gona happen.upgrading to 350 is like 50$ more for me.
so i had to spend like 230 . i think. or i can just put new graphics card and run it

Videocards that require extra power will not work without it. As far as power supplies are concerned. This is one of the highest rated and also costs less than what you're expected to: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817153023

Don't let the price fool you, It's high-quality. Just read a few reviews.

The compatibility between micro-ATX and standard ATX come down generaly to the case you're using. If it's a slimline/low profile case, a standard ATX PSU may not fit. Do you know the model/make of your case?

After looking around, I notice you were looking for help for the same issue back in october. Tsk tsk, all that talking from people and absolutely no help. It looks like they just kept saying the same things over and over again and I'm sorry you've been having problems for so long.

Sadly, I can't seem to find any information, as to the dimensions of your computer's PSU. It was brought up that it is using a propitary form factor and thus, non-upgradable (from a "bolt-in" sense). Tho, if you can supply the dimensions of the PSU, we may be able to find something that will fit.

*sigh* With that said, I'm left to suggesting one of two things:

1.) Use the best AGP video card that doesn't require extra power: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814103159

2.) Use a 5.25 bay video card power supply like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817153037

Looks like there aren't any inexpensive options to get any good performance. On the other hand, a 9600xt is a lovely upgrade from the 9200 I believe you're currently using.

The power supply you're looking at seems like it would work. There's a reviewer that states it works in their Sony Vaio, so I'd say it's a safe bet. The only concern would be the power draw. See, the 7600GS cards I see on newegg.com require 350watts @18amps, while the PSU you posted supplies 350watts @17amps. But, the 7600GS from CompUSA requires 300watts and doesn't specify the current draw.

Hrm, I'd say go for it and pic up the PSU and 7600GS (256mB version is fine and also cheaper on newegg.com).

Only the most modern games (read, Oblivion) really utilize videocards with 512mB of memory. It's been said that video cards manufactured a year or so ago with 512mB actually performed less than 256mB cards due to the the onboard memory controllers. All in all, today it's good to have 512mB cards since it won't have to dump its memory every so often to load up more textures/effects, unlike a 512mB card which will need to do it half as often.

Look at memory on video cards like memory for a computer, having more doesn't make it faster, per sae. It just keeps the computer from slowing down.

kshep, that wasn't ATI's fault, so how can you hold that against them?
Dreamer: It probably won't run with a 7600 in it, it will just shut down when you start playing a game.
With regard to video memory, check what type it is, 256MB DDR2 or GDDR3 is better than 512MB of DDR1.
