I am wanting to get a better cooling pcu fan for my system. I have checked on Newegg but i really have no idea what will work/compatible with my board/cpu. I don't know the socket number wither,(can't find in manual). I don't want to spend over $50 better for a cooling fan. Running Windows XP, 450w powersupply. If someone can suggest something to get me in the right direction, i would really appriciate it.
If the 102 and 120 are that way round with the case warmer than the processor, it's the case ventilation you need to sort. 102F is cool for a processor, especially an Athlon XP. (Your board is socket A, also known as Socket 462). How many fans do you have in your case?
All together on the fans is 5. 1 sucking air in, 2 out, power supply fan and one on the pcu. How would i take care of the cases temp? I knew it was high but haven't searched on how to get it cooler. It's an AmeriComp, Inc case if that helps.
Do you have unused slots where you could put apg or pci cards? If so, knock out the metals pieces covering them, it may help by adding ventalation
LordV, i have one of those slim fans that sucks air out that you can add in the back by taking out one of the slots. I used compressed air and blow dust out monthy just about.
my 2 pci slots are filled. The other slots under and below those i'm not so sure if anything are in them. Let me look real quik. The brown slot is the only one with nothing in it. Nut it's immidiately under my used pci slot and not lined up with the next available metal slot (to open up).
Hmm, them i dont really know what to say, other than if you have a special case, it may have holes for more fans (mine has one more, but im too poor to buy another led fan). The only other thing i could suggest is to buy a new case, i hearn the ones with mesh sides are the best for cooling.
Ok, a few months ago i made/cut another hole to add another fan on the side. It has mesh holes on the side and the back of the pc.
yea i wish i woulda got a case that had a side vent.. ive thought about putting a hole in it to add a side fan. I have 2 80's in the front and a 120 exhaust in the back but its still running a little hot...
Forumcrew, a Dremel does wonders!!! If you get the battery operated one, your gonna be charging it a few times till you get the job done!
my northbridge fan isnt spinning.. the connection works fine ive tried it with other fans. How important is this? And if I replace it should i get another fan for it or just use a heatsink.
Neither does mine. It's not an issue if you have a well ventilated case, i.e. with a side fan to be blowing air across it, but if you've just got a normal case with no airflow down there, you'll probably need to replace the fan.
i have 3 80 MM's 2 in the front 1 blowing up on the video card from the bottom and a 120 exhaust out the back.. ill replace it anyway but i think ill just put a heatsink on it.
How worth it is it to replace the stock heatsink? will it make a couple degree difference in the cpu temp?
Unless there's a heat problem there's not much need to do it. Only if you're overclocking do you need a better heatsink than normally provided.
