basically, its a 3.0ghz prescott 478pin cpu. would it burn out if I was to take the fan off and just leave it with the heatsink? btw, I have it on 24/7 all the time.

hello that cpu runs hot normaly. if you remove the fan leaving the heatsink alone it wont burn beacuse the heat sink absorb heat fron the cpu to the sink and disipated with the cool air provide by the fan. without the fan the heatsink will get hotter than usual so the chip but wont burn also must of today´s mobos and chips had thermal control or cpu throtle which lock the system before something can happen to the chip.

if you use your cpu 24/7 don´t remove the fan it wont burn but will crash within an hour or two depending on the load.

Hey!! why you wanna do that anyway if you got tired of your prescott send it!! to me jajaajja

take the fan off & you'll kill the cpu quicker than normal.

Very much more. Even though the heat sink is taking the heat away, the heat has nowhere to go, so technically it will overheat the heat sink and eventually burn out the CPU, hypothetically speaking of coarse

I haven't been in the forums for awhile, but I decided to drop in to see what the full moon brought out. Oh my! Remove the fan from a Prescott??? Are you daft????? What possible reason could there be for doing that?
